I go to a church named after St. Vincent De Paul. I have been going there for years. I had no idea that he had anger issues. If there is one thing that I relish, when learning the biographies of the saints, is that it shows that to be holy, and regarded highly in the kingdom of God, you can still be riddled with human flaws. Thank you, Father Casey, for showing us the human side to St. Vincent De Paul.

I've read a book about Mother Angelica, how I admire her level of courage! 😮 I also had to have surgery which put me in medical menopause, I couldn't control my emotions whatsoever. I was placed on hormone therapy and once they found the right balance for me it made a world of difference. I hope you can get some relief for your own symptoms too. 🙏

VINCENTIANS FOREVER!!! 🥰 Vincent literally only became a priest because when some priests in his area were getting ordained, he snuck into the line; he succeeded because the bishop was blind! He also suffered from depression; he often wrote how he didn’t feel he had done enough for the poor, and was often said to be very sad. I live in Perryville, Missouri, which was the first place the Vincentians settled after arriving in America!

I named my son Vincent for Vincent de Paul. I was part of a Vincent de Paul chapter in Moscow Idaho that was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. In our chapter we would go over the Mass readings every week in our m and discuss how they are related to our ministry. It was the perfect combination of prayer and action.

Nice video. I’d also add that St. Vincent and the Congregation of the Mission were additionally concerned with the seminary training of priests. And of course, there is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul established many years later in honor of Vincent.

This explains so much! I got help from Saint Vincent de Paul (the organization) years ago and they sent me to a store with a voucher. I tried to take only what I needed. When I got to the check out, the ladies had noticed that I had not used my whole voucher up. They got SO pissed. So I did hat anybody would do eing berrated by an older lady for not taking more than they need. I went back and got more. I look on that with a lot of fondness. I will never forget it.

We are all called to be saints by answering the call “Come, follow me”. Some are so sanctified in their journey with Christ that they are sanctified by the Church to the highest order and become an inspiration to many on their own journeys to Christ Jesus. As a Catholic, I am so grateful to welcoming the Word being revealed through ordinary men and women.

As a retired pastor from a Wesleyan denomination, what strikes me is the many parallels between St. Vincent de Paul and John Wesley - as well as the parallels between the two movements. Wesley also was moved by the lack of ministry and theological education, he also employed laypeople (something that continues in many Wesleyan churches today) and saw to their practical needs as well.

@@sniperpronerfmods9811 Today, generally, the term applies to theologically conservative Protestant/Evangelical Churches in the Methodist tradition, to include organizations such as the Church of the Nazarene, the Free Methodist Church (in which I am ordained), the Wesleyan Church, the new Global Methodist Church and the Salvation Army. The above listed denominations often work closely together, especially on pastoral education. Clergy often move between these denominations. Theologically, our roots are in the Anglican Church. We are Armenian in our view of salvation, not Calvinist. We view Scripture as the final authority, but value reason and tradition. We also value practical ministries that meet real human needs - including ministry to the poor. We have a lot in common with St. Vincent de Paul and the Franciscans. Obviously, I can't list everything about us in this post.... but this should give you a general idea.

St. Vincent wasn't ordained as 24 years old, but 19 years (born 1581, ordained 1600) - bringing to the ordination the document confirming that he is 24 years old (the necessary age). Vincent also never wanted to create Daughters of Charity - He himself many times denied that the idea come from him or St. Louise. He also tried to follow the God's Will - rather to wait for the sign from God than to be too hasty in good deeds. About his bad temper I heard now for the first time. - He is know to become very humble and meek - capable to collaborate with everyone. I found this information only from one book - from many which were written on this topic. Little know is also his sense of humour which he sometimes used to show on "unspeakable" topic.

Once upon a time a certain King gave to His chosen servants the free gift of vast riches to each one. In the process of time men under the pretense of being the King's servants rose up and went to the descendants of the chosen servants saying If you desire to be heirs of the free gift of riches you must follow us to earn those riches and do your part. After following those deceivers, the descendants found they had no inheritance of vast riches and even lost everything they seemed to have. They inquired of the King for their riches. The King said Did not I say my riches were a free gift but you did not believe me neither would you accept it as a free gift instead you worked to earn them not reverencing My Words. Then the King cast the deceivers and descendants into prison for ever. Ephesians 2:8 KJV "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast."

While not a saint, there's a blessed I admire for standing up for his faith in Japan during the Sengoku period (or shortly after, not sure). Christians were not allowed to practice their faith, which was all he asked. He eventually took over a castle so that they could practice. When a counter siege began, he and his followers fasted so thoroughly that the leader of the siege began to suspect they were being supplied. But they were betrayed, and in exchange for his life the traitor let the besiegers know how unable they would be to put up any resistance if they were to be taken by storm. They were all martyred. If anyone can find the name of this blessed, I'd appreciate it. Then of course you have Joan of Arc, who famously wasn't exactly a nun either.
