That was a really helpful review. I'm interested in how productive a laser could be. I think I'm going to make the plunge into laser world.

I love these tool tip videos. I like the fact that you get tool specific. It helps me make purchasing specific decisions and I don't mind that it might feel like you are pitching product. I would like to see a tool tip on screws. I have looked at many of your plans and listened to many videos. The Plans seem to use generic screws but I have heard you mention self counter boreing/sink screws, deconized screws etc. What do you really use and where do you get them?

I bought one, about $500 at the time. The level was off right out of the box. I tried to return it. It was sent off to stabila, and they sent it back. Said it wasn't covered by warranty. They said laser was off because of physical damage. Even though I bought it that way. I'm still pretty upset about it, I don't make much and it's a lot of money to me. I would have been willing to pay for a repair/calibration just so I didn't lose my initial investment. I ended up getting a dewalt, and it's been accurate with a year of daily use. It's a shame, because I really love the stabila levels. Now I feel like I shouldn't buy anymore of their products on principle.

Hi Ron, you mentioned using this on a foundation is it bright enough use outside? Thank you for the informative video.

I used the 400 last week to check the slope of a waterproof deck for proper drainage. It worked, but was very difficult to see the line. For foundations and other exterior work, I would use another tool. I have heard about green line lasers. Maybe another color would work better than red? It is probable a challenge with current technology to have a powerful enough laser to lay a crisp visible line in bright conditions. Point lasers like the PLS 5 work good outside, but are hard to adjust and don't give a continuous visible line.

+Ron Paulk I purchased the PLS HVR505G which is a green point rotary laser. The green isn't bright enough for outdoors but works great with a sensor. The price was around $1300 and we are looking for a less expensive model to leave in our equipment trailers. Sounds like the stabila may be a good candidate for the in door work. Thanks for the great review and quality video.

Hi Ron, just wondering hows this laser for exterior used. I always wanted to get for my framing crew but afraid that red lines will not be visible in daylight. Does the target plate make it easier to see?
