This Toolsday video is all about the Stabila LAC300G green laser level and is a long term tool review. A long term tool review means I have used this a ton, and over a long time period. Stabila makes the best measuring tools in the industry for professionals and the LAX300G is no exception. It is amazingly useful and always reliable. If you don't have one in your toolbox yet, pick one up and thank me later! Maybe you are looking for a good Christmas gift for a tradesperson in your life?

Probably the best Ryan’s kzbin.infoUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans on building a shed is hardly ever found. And Ryan takes the mystery out of different types of foundation options, etc. He even shows how to build a shed with different designs. Very comprehensive, covering different roofing materials, siding, etc.

I have a imex line laser (Australian company). Mine differs from yours, it is red line so the visability is not as good, but it shoot a 360 degree lines. It has a bracket you can screw to a stud, and then slide the laser up and down on the bracket. Makes framing ceilings and setting up furring channel super efficient. I have also used it for framing/straightening big walls as well (6m high). You can set the laser to shoot a straight line that is offset but running parallel to your bottom plate. Then measure your studs to the plumb laser line. Once the measurement from the stud to laser is the same as bottom plate to laser you know that stud is straight.

I’ve also been using a laser level for years now. I have found that I can level out framing for bulkheads for ductwork using a piece of light gauge metal about 4’ long screwed to the wall. Then I can use the magnetic on the back of the laser level to slide it up and down to get the height I need. Tried tripods but they never seem to get high enough.

i love stabila levels, (to the point i destroyed all other brands levels that i had) but went with Bosch gll3-330cg, 3 times 360 lines and i love it, makes life so much easier when you doing metal framing, suspended ceiling, it also works with reciever (blinks) even used it for grading its just laser combine. oh and also uses 12v bosh battery which is very convenient.

Exactly, for not much more than the stabila you can get 3, 360° lines. I had the red but had to do a job in bright light. Not too good. The green is the wy to go.

A good review of a nice tool. One thought though on the i-joist mezzanine. Those should have had blocking in those longer spans. Anything over 10 ft or so need blocking to prevent possible bowing or roll. I know the deck was glued down but the blocking still adds stability.

2:35 when working with wood it is worth having a flat plate of metal handy which can be screwed top and bottom (so it doesn't move) to say a post to give you somewhere to mount to magnetically. Obviously, this isn't an option on finished surfaces but ideal for say when needing to fix it to one of your posts say high up where the tripod can't be used. Also by having a decent sized strip of metal you have plenty of fine tuning available by moving it up and down the metal.

These are great tools for finding level and plumb. You mentioned a straight line as an example on a ceiling for installing pot lights. It certainly gives a straight line but unless I am missing something I find it difficult to get that line parallel to an existing wall for example. An 1/8" of movement either way where the laser is positioned can mean several inches out of parallel from a fixed wall. What am I doing wrong?
@kawasakiglenn
@kawasakiglenn Жыл бұрын
Get a 3x360 laser and this will run a lines right the way found the room on 3 different planes, if you want it parallel to one of the walls to do ceiling lights etc just get it close by the eye and you can measure off the wall at the ends or from the floor and use micro adjustments on the laser , usually you can just line it up by eye till it looks good as the owners aren’t going to get a tape measure out if it’s already looking good by lining your laser up by eye

Having never seen that laser in real life, I still will question if that feature you call clamping is really made for clamping, my guess is that its a height adjustment? A bosch we have at work has that function, so you can put it on something and adjust the horizontal line to hit the mark, if youre not on a adjustable tripod, just a bench or something, fine adjustment

There should of been a black plastic base with 1/4" screw come with the laser, this base is used to zero the laser to a wood plate or steel track edge, for plumbing. It splits the dot, right on the materials edge. The laser body raises for the same purpose(without plastic base) a steel wall plate for acoustic ceiling work, and target card should have also come with the laser... The plumb dots are king for framing, I use two LAX300's red and green... and a LAX 400 for initial layout of corners, for steel stud framing jobs. I dearly love my stablia lasers and levels! Tip for Kyle and others: Lose the Duracell AAs and go with Energizer Lithium AA batteries. They last much longer and best feature, they never leak. I've stopped putting Duracells in anything over $2 in value as the Duracells always leaked (you region/climate may determine better life). Sure, best practice is to remove them but then who remembers? And don't use rechargeables as they are usually 1.2V instead of the +1.5V AA (non-rechargeable). Perhaps you should suggest to Stabila to make a lithium battery pack, as well as solar-integrated charger since you work outdoors often.

How do you insure that your plumb line is going strait when your setting the laser up. What I mean is that if the laser isn’t 100% perpendicular to the wall or object your line will skew.
@veikkoimmonen7300
@veikkoimmonen7300 3 жыл бұрын
It will only skew if the plane you're projecting it onto isn't plumb. To have a plumb line on a tilted plane, then you need to indeed have the line perpendicular to the plane. Although it will only be plumb when viewed from that particular direction. A quick way to check (apart from a spirit level) if the target plane is plumb is to project the laser onto it from one direction, make two marks at different heights, then project from another direction, lining up one of the marks. If the other one lines up too, the plane is plumb.

I don't think that supposed to clamp on anything, I'm pretty sure that's to raise the tool in case you have to put it on, say, an edge of a piece of track, for metal studs. 3mm/10m is not a whole lot to be honest. 1mm/10m would require a rotating laser with a receiver. Price range for that: 800$ or more. And a rotating laser (at least the ones I know) only shoot a horizontal line and no verticals. I may be wrong about that though.

Warning...do not leave Duracell AAA or D size batterys in in the laser level. They are made in China I assume by the writing on the battery case. They have ruined 3 Maglights by bleeding chemicals from the case while in storage. The D size are worse. The lights will light but the bleeding chemicals corrode the aluminum so you cannot get the batteries out of the light. You won’t know the flashlight has been destroyed until you pull the end cap and cannot remove the batteries. Duracell used to warrant their battery but they will not eve n answer my e mails. I have switched to Energizer for all sizes and I used to only use Duracell’s. Not any more. Last year I lost about .$100.00 in Maglights to this problem. I had big 3 cell Maglights in each car and smaller Maglights all over the garage and house in my hunting gear. Beware of Duracell. JoeB
