I use polyester seam binding on shoulder seams and it is much lighter and it does not stretch at all....perfect weight for lighter fabrics too....it works on any type and weight of fabric.

I watch your videos so often but I've never left a comment of appreciation, thank you for the clarity and for teaching me so much.

Thanks so much for this demonstration! For those of us looking for the old-school, non-adhesive method of stabilizing seams, this is really invaluable. (So many tutorials just focus on how to use fusible stay tape.) I agree with other reviewers that your directions are really clear. I especially appreciated the suggestion about pinning the ends first, and the reasons for doing that. Awesome! Thanks, again!

for those curved seams, the fusible knit stay tapes, such as Wonder Tape brand, are just fabulous...

Thanks for the clear and concise video! 😊 One question, should we do this for non-stretch fabrics too?

What type of durable sew in product do you recommend to stabilize shaped hemlines in knit garments; something that will stand up to machine laundering without coming undone and will prevent warping, stretching & fabric twisting in the hem?

should light weight or heavy duty twill tape be used to stabilize shoulder seams & necklines on garments made of knit fabric?

@ProfessorPincushion10 жыл бұрын
I've been doing this for yeeeeeaaaarrrrs and if I get you to finally wear that garment that's been sitting in a heap forever, I'll feel like I've accomplished something. So you need to do it for me as well as you. ;) Post a pic on our fb wall when you do.

hi i am looking for direction for a coaul neck line in woven and stretch that originally are not coaul please
@spreshj78472 жыл бұрын
If used on the neckline of a knit…what if you need the stretch to get the garment over your head?

If you have a front piece and a back lining, should you apply the tape to the front piece or the lining?

Great tutorial as always! Can we also apply the twill tape to knit fabrics? If not, what do you recommend?
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
Keila Brazis yes, in fact, the fabric I'm using in this tutorial is a knit :)

Great video! Would you still recommend this method for knits without a facing? In your demo for example, is the neckline done and the completed shirt will have the twill tape exposed?
@ProfessorPincushion6 жыл бұрын
sure, you'll sometimes actually see seam stabilizer in something like a tshirt, but they're using a clear stabilizer, so you can always try to find and use that instead if you want it to be less noticeable

My machine keeps getting stuck when I use my stay tape what should I do ? Pls help
@solangemanzor86704 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! Thank you so much! I am only wondering; after you have finished sewing the tape on, how do you finish the neckline? Do you just fold it over and sew again? 🤔 (sorry i’m a beginner sewer so this might be easy or second nature to a lot of people but it is rather confusing for me 😬😅) thank you so much for your help!
@ProfessorPincushion4 жыл бұрын
You would still employ either a neckline facing piece or a folding hemming technique. This is just for stabilizing the neckline not for finishing, so once it's put in you just continue following your instructions as normal and can ignore it. Hope that helps.

So simple but so effective. I notice your fine marking lines. My tailor chalk never looks this fine even though I try to keep it sharp. How do you mark your fabric so successfully?
@ProfessorPincushion10 жыл бұрын
haha...I bought a brand new chalk. Otherwise, it would probably look similar to yours :)

How often would you do this to your garments? Every time you use a knit or stretch fabric?
@ProfessorPincushion8 жыл бұрын
+Tina Stephens sorry for the delay! My computer died and I just got a new one, but I'm back now! :) Yes, I would do it for your stretchy garments. thanks!

Great thanks. Is there any particular reason you don't stitch the tape and shoulder seam together in one go?
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
Clare Laurence You could, I just find it easier to deal with one element at a time since the tape is a little on the thin side.
@laurie11539 жыл бұрын
Professor Pincushion That makes sense, thanks.

I am teaching myself to sew and I have learned so much from your channel! Question: My pattern asks for seam binding for the shoulders of a tank dress. Is that the same as twill tape? If not, which should I use? Thank you for your amazing videos!
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
fayfayb06 hmmm...I guess I would have to see the directions. On our website, you'll see a tab for "Ask a Question" you can post your question there and add an image of the directions and I'll do my best to help you out.

What's the width of the twil tape?
@ProfessorPincushion4 жыл бұрын
I think it's about 1/4". It's not very wide at all.
