After watching your Virtual Dub tutorial and this. Now I'm clear when to take up what. If you want something profoundly great visual, go for VD and if you want something simple, sweet and quicker, go for SC. Thanks. I might do a video soon explaining my observations with what I've learned from these two great videos. Thanks pal !!

Good call if you don't need the stabilization added. Happy it was helpful! If I can, I avoid using stabilization but it does come in handy from time to time. A bit of camera shake can be a good thing depending on what you're filming.

The issue I'm having is tied to my aspect ratio, I'm not using a 16:9 clip and when exported the video for some reason doesn't seem to cut at the right point so I can see the edges of the clip going all over the place into what should be the black bars. Is there a setting I'm missing which fixes this or do I have to try and manually work out how many pixels I need to crop the entire thing by at the top and bottom using a seperate filter? It seems to me that it should automatically be clipping the footage at the edges to maintain the original aspect ratio but it just doesn't seem to do that.

Thanks man, this is a nice video with great explanations. I'm trying this on mountain biking video, which is quite bumpy but any stabilising would be good. Keep it up.
@PointofParallax6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment :) I've had more time to test both free versions of stabilization though (I have a vid on stabilization with VirtualDub), and I think virtualdub might present better results overall. It would be worth giving a shot.
@BMacca3176 жыл бұрын
Okay thanks, I'll check it out. I just did an analysis with the settings you suggested but I think my video is just far too bumpy! It became quite blurry. I shot at 1080p 60fps. Hopefully some better results with Virtualdub!
@PointofParallax6 жыл бұрын
I've only tested 4K content on virtualdub but I found it kept the image quality pretty well compared to Shotcut. But for 4k content you have to use the 64bit version of the software, for 1080p I think 32bit would be a good fit for you (32bit is less laggy/taxing on PC). The software does tend to zoom in a lot though with the settings I mention, you can change the analysis from 30% to 20%, think thatll make it zoom less overall but result in a slightly more shaky vid.

Can you explain dual pass in detail? What is the use if we are not using stabilization but just normal editing (trim etc) and exporting for youtube?
@PointofParallax5 жыл бұрын
I always use dual pass for my final export. The first pass analyzes your project and saves the data collected, which is used in the second pass to produce a higher quality render. Every time you export a project, you will lose some quality due to the encoding process. Dual pass helps to minimize this loss. This is the way I understand two-pass encoding or dual pass. Hope this helps.
@bhvm3335 жыл бұрын
@@PointofParallax thanks! That makes sense. However dual pass is always unavailable for me. Maybe due to hardware encoder.
@aishahshamsul86422 жыл бұрын
Great video, thanks for the explanation. So stabilization post edit sacrificed quality. It seems that it's better to invest in stabilizing equipments like a gimbal or a camera/phone with good built in stabilization.

Hello! This is so helpful, however, even when I had the exact clip selected, I can't get stabilize to show up in my filters, I am in the video filters setting, I've tried everything! downloaded shotcut maybe a month ago so i think it's the newest version. Any help would be appreciated!

at 0:43 after you click the "+" to open up filters, did you choose the video tab at the bottom? There are 3 tabs at the bottom of the list: Favorite filters, Video filters, and Audio filters. By default my shotcut puts me in the favorite filters (first tab). Did you click the second/middle tab? It should be in there under video filters.

Brilliant video bro, just what i was looking for. I'm getting a little knee jerk between clips, I'm not sure what that's all about. I've used filters between clips to slid into one another. There's something going on in there, but i think i can just get away with it. Perhaps i need to stabilize before adding barn doors etc? But I'm really happy with the way it's coming together.
@PointofParallax4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't have any experience with sliding one clip into another (besides just overlaying the two clips as a transition), but I've had a couple glitches before too where right at the end of the clip it goes white or has a drastic jerking motion, I think it's just a bug unfortunately, not sure how to get around it. Glad to hear your project is going well though. You can drag the filters above or below each other to change the order in which the filters are applied, maybe try having stabilization first and then last in the filter list for your clips, and see if that helps.

Doubt anyone is still checking comments, but here goes. I tried to follow the instructions, but Hx264 was not listed as one of my codec choices. You should see a toolbar at the top running horizontally (just under File, Edit, View, etc). There is a "Filter" tab 5th from the right side by default.

I would like to ask you for something. You know, after the stabilization I saved my movie, but at the end the movie doesn´t show any stabilization. I need your help. I don´t know what to do next.
@PointofParallax6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes with Shotcut I apply a filter and it doesn't apply. Sometimes all you have to do is click somewhere new in your timeline or just shift something a little bit and move it back. It's almost like you need to wake up your project lmao. Unfortunately I don't have anything more specific to say because I'm not sure why it does this or what exactly I'm doing to make the filter magically take. Does your timeline show stabilization and just not the exported file? Or does it even show no stabilization in your timeline?
@mattyweini006 жыл бұрын
It does a little bit. However, it isn´t 100 %. The start of the video is stabilized, but the end of the video is worse than it was at the start. Do you think the reason of that is the length of the video? My video is 6 minutes long
@PointofParallax6 жыл бұрын
You can try cutting your timeline into smaller pieces and analyzing your timeline for stabilization in smaller chunks. Maybe it thinks its stabilized enough in most areas based on a 6 minute analysis and that's causing it to miss some more shaky parts at the end. Try analyzing 2 minutes at a time and see if that helps.
@mattyweini006 жыл бұрын
I'll try that. Thanks, mate. :-)
@mattyweini006 жыл бұрын
I tried to do it according to your advice. I splited the video (6 min) into 11 pieces (each piece 30 seconds). The video after stabilization (in ShotCut) was made perfectly, but at the end (after the export) the final result was same (the end of the video was worse than it was at the start). Do you think that the main problem would be the export?

I do not find this filter. Has anyone a solution for this problem?
@PointofParallax6 жыл бұрын
The 2 times I couldn't find the filter were: having the video track selected instead of a clip in my timeline, or when you click filters, make sure you are under the 'video filters' tab and not the default 'favorite filters' tab.
@PointofParallax6 жыл бұрын
Also, do you have the newest version of Shotcut installed? There was a version (maybe 6ish months ago?) where the stabilize filter was removed, and then re-implemented in a newer version. It has been around ever since then though.

That's really weird. I have the most recent version of shotcut too and mine shows up. And you selected a clip in the timeline, not the entire timeline (clicking V1 on the left side) right? The only other thing I could think of is if it's a hardware issue, maybe shotcut is detecting your hardware can't stabilize video for some reason. Sorry I wish I could be of more help. I would recommend going here and seeing if anyone can help you. forum.shotcut.org There are people on there far smarter than me and some users are really quick to respond.

I was using Creator Studio stabilization, but it was bugging out like crazy (it turned my 4 minute upload video into 1 minute, irreversible and it was an old upload I didn't want to have to remove and re-up). Right now I use virtualdub (got a vid on that too) and it works really well, better than Shotcut but it takes more time because you're using 2 softwares now so the editing process becomes less streamlined.

The more cuts, transitions, filters, etc in your timeline, the longer it will take. It's also highly dependent on your computer hardware. How long does yours take? For me it's about 1.5x the length of my timeline.

Nice video! But it su*ks quite a lot that you can only use it on single clips. So it gets almost impossible to use this for my DJI FPV clips because they are split up into 4GB pieces of .mp4 files. naw man
@PointofParallax Жыл бұрын
Thanks and I agree, I only use it if getting the absolute best post stabilization (next to buying a better software) is very important to me for a certain clip or if it makes or breaks the clip being usable. I almost always just use my video editor's (shotcut) built in stabilizer because it's more convenient.
