Stabilizing a Settling Foundation

Is it possible to install buttress walls external to the house to oppose movement of external walls caused by settling foundation? Or even use metal buttressing poles?

Buttresses are typically used to oppose lateral forces. The settlement is caused by a vertical force. In other words, with a sinking subsoil the buttresses would most likely just follow the wall down. The only benefit would be a larger footprint to spread the load out more. Again, that’s not the primary purpose of a butress.
