Australian hardwoods are for more dense than most other timbers so are far more difficult to stabilize. This is just my process for stabilizing not the only.

What’s your thoughts on thin scales compared to blocks matee ?? I’m dye stabilising some test scales to see the penetration vs times
@TobyFireandSteel
@TobyFireandSteel 4 жыл бұрын
Heya mate they are definitely faster. More surface area and thinner cross section means faster penetration. Deffo let me know how your times come out please mate

Great vid! Just wondering what your thoughts were on stabilising plywood’s or anything that is glued in laminates? Is this a no go? Cheers

I'll be honest I've never done it but I have stabilised stuff with resin cast into it. I'd say try it in a separate container inside your chamber. I would think it would work really well. Maybe start with a non marine ply see how it goes. Thanks Toby

What vacuum chamber do you recommend?
@TobyFireandSteel
@TobyFireandSteel 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate I personally now use a pressure pot with a custom made glass lid. So I can do vacuum cycles and pressure cycles in it and just change the lid over. Take a listen to my most recent podcasts Toby Fire and Steel on al podcast platforms. They go into all you could need for stabilizing mate

Hi mate. If you liked this you should listen to three recent episodes of my podcast they really are educational on stabilizing starting with this on tobyfireandsteel.libsyn.com/website/timber-stabilizing-with-the-mad-scientist the following 2 are game changers too. Sometimes when they can be bothered timberbits have it in stock. That's it mate. I get it from the USA bud

so if you need to stabilise for 3 months does the vacuum pump need to be on the whole time or are you sealing the camber and keeping it above a certain pressure? if that the right word. Cheers 4 sharing sir.
@TobyFireandSteel
@TobyFireandSteel 5 жыл бұрын
The 3 months ish includes soak time. My first few cycles were on permanently for over a month so I killed a couple of pumps. But now days I let it cycle off every now and then. To cool down as the chamber holds a vacuum for quite a while. I'm testing pressure cycles as well at the moment to see if I can shorten it. Thanks for the question
