I could be wrong but I think the first movie to use a Steadicam was the Shining, the short clip jogged my memory.

Do you ever use a zoom lens with a motor to pan on a tight shot then pull out as your panning? I feel like this could help to reveal more of the environment as the character approaches camera.

What do you think about the Ronin 4D? Is it really going to replace dolly track and Steadicam?

That is not entirely true. If you watch "Sunrise", one of the greatest movies of all time, you will find lots of movement. Many other silent movies had 'cinematic' movement, too.
