It's interesting to see how Kitty and Amaroq have kind of swapped adoptive children, so to speak. Kitty was basically Corn's mother figure growing up, while Amaroq kinda saw himself semi-forced into raising Charles when they fled McCoy. Now Amaroq has handed the reins of taking care of Charles over to Kitty, since she clearly has the firm but motherly touch that Charles didn't have growing up, while he (Amaroq) perceives that Corn has always been a bit coddled and overdependent and needs to learn personal responsibility and how to take care of himself. Even before the Mercy Bow incident, we saw Amaroq teaching Corn some jackalope care skills, talking him through the process while still letting Corn be the one to do the actual work. Just now, we saw human Corn immediately go trim the jackalope hooves, which is something he probably learned from Amaroq.

@140kittykat true. When she asks Kitty, she specifically says, "will you be OUR mother?" Like, she knows right off the bat that she's not cut out for that (no pun intended). Alright, gonna take a stab in the dark with this one. So Corn's new snake form has a few things in common with his previous human form. Both are calm and well-spoken, and more vocal about their needs. But where the human form leaned towards being sociable and considerate (playing ball with humans, offering to trade jobs with the other asylum inmate), the snake form is more selfish and conniving (asking Calamity to trim the jackolope's hooves, tricking the child into taking care of the jackolope entirely). Meanwhile, his new human form is timid and willing to take care of the jackolope, while his old axolotl form was violent and willing to lash out at others, with the both of them clearly being under emotional distress. While the nature of his forms has changed wildly, Corn has consistently maintained that the form which is crying is always his 'less desirable half', the one he wishes to avoid. I think Corn's had some serious emotional pain all his life (and having to survive the black ick as a young child, who could blame him?), which he's repressed to the point that it's taken on it's own form, the axolotl. And now that all of that pain is starting to bubble to the surface, he's trying to repress it even harder to the point that his personality has splintered. Anything to keep that less desirable half from taking over. Taking this a step further, all this nonsense started with Corn touching the mercy bow, right? And the mercy bow is said to grant healing powers to the chosen wielder, while only causing harm in anyone else's hands. If the theories are right and Corn's the true wielder of the mercy bow, then maybe unleashing Corn's axolotl side was the mercy bow's way of 'healing' Corn, bringing out his hurt so he could come to terms with it and start to actually feel better. But healing those kinds of scars is never easy, nor is it painless. God help our silly snake boy

Like I read recently on Betsys tumblr someones theory about Charles and Ichabods little episode in that black ick mindspace and wondering how the blue color reprents something like Ichabods ego or will or something, or if its just magic like the blue tezcatlipoca which otherwise would trump the black so the blue had to be eroded first in order for charles to do something etc. And Betsy called that a significant observation or something So, yeah, keep up those hypotheseses

Something else I noticed: in ep 44, both sides of Corn had limbs, but the post-firing Corn is split between entirely humanoid and entirely snakish. Which means only one of them can fire the bow anymore, unless Calm Corn gets creative. And Crying Corn is the one who willfully fired it to split them in this manner, without hesitation, while Calm Corn refused. Which is interesting also in terms of *healing*: Calm Corn called Crying Corn "the one who wants to hurt", but pre-split, Corn healed others by shedding his own blood (sometimes after biting someone - which, while certainly harmful, always seemed to be a defensive impulse rather than intent). Calm Corn has shown no inclination to really help anyone aside from _possibly_ swapping tasks with that one patient in Blackwell. Crying Corn immediately went to help the Jackalope, immediately tried to repair the situation at Blackwell, immediately fired the bow. I think Crying Corn is the one able or at least WILLING to do any healing, which we'll see in the future. I suspect Calm Corn either can't, or won't. The fact that helping others and being willing to cause harm are embodied in the same facet of his identity makes sense for what we know of him, but is also just really interesting bc they're traits one might assume to be opposites. A surgeon can't heal without making a cut, I suppose?
@taddad2641Ай бұрын
think its more complicated than even that you you are onto it. i think what happened is that corn actually has two people inside of him and its referencing mythology a good bit. one half is queztacoatl, the other is 'axyollty. that one is normally depicted as a dog but i sometimes depicted as the new thingy, and they are referencing that. amphbiian and the serpent. the issue is that their two halves got all mixed up together and they actually need to sedperate back to normal. the human half is emotionless and overtly rational, as rationality makse us human but without our animal aspect we loose our emotiosn and empathy. the other half is the purely emotional, animal half. when it used the bow to try and heal itself again it mixed up again. now the animal is in the human, though one driven by intense emotions and corn's inherent empathy, and the overtly rational is now in the serpent form.

What's REALLY interesting about this episode is that.... after the bow incident, it seems like the two corns have... switched personalities? At LEAST *some* personality traits. The Axolotl Corn was crying while Human Corn 1 was calm and maybe a little sassy. HC1 swapped jobs with that other inmate, wanting to be helpful, maybe? And now snake corn is a little sassy, but also a bit lazy? But maybe just resourceful, passing off a job to others when he can't do it (trimming the hooves) but refusing to do the part he IS capable of doing (the brushing). While Human Corn 2 (seen here) is crying and wants to be helpful, doing the job himself. GOD there's so many little bits I keep remembering and I want to put it all together but I can't keep it all straight in my head, it's SO good

@@mykmac2599 I don't think they switched personalities as much as they switched shapes. Human Corn here is a little nonverbal gremlin with frazzled hair, much like Axolotl Corn was. Yup, I think they simply switched shapes, so now Feral Corn is human instead of animal, and Civilized Corn is animal instrad of human. What interests me more is that at the end, when we switched back to Snake Corn, he seems to have grown a hair or something on his head.

@mykmac2599 Жыл бұрын
@@filipahlers6156 good point!! but one thing we both forgot, when Axolotl Corn shot Normal Human Corn in the mirror, Axolotl Corn is the one that turned into Snake Corn, not Normal Human Corn. I remember from the bonus episode where kitty explains how spirits are formed, she mentions that sometimes the falling stars that form them can sometime split from one to become multiple, OR *multiple can combine to become one.* It's obvious that the latter is how Corn was formed. I think what's happened, is that whatever happened when Corn FIRST picked up the light bow split him into two forms, Human and Animal, and two minds, Calm and Unhinged. Axolotl Corn is Unhinged Human Corn, just in the animal body vs the human body, and similarly, Snake Corn is Calm Human Corn. So when Axolotl Corn shot Calm Human Corn, it DID switch their personalities, BUT their bodies stayed in the same place, and the Animal and Human forms changed to the respective personalities we're both kinda right, I think! They did switch personalities from one body into the other, one in the real world and one in the reflection, but their forms changed to better reflect the minds that are in them. it's all so interesting! also, about the "hair"(?) that popped up on Snake Corn at the end, I think that may be an axolotl gill? if you look at how Axolotl Corn's gills look, they look kinda "fuzzy" like that. Maybe the switching back and forth is making them more like each other? 👀

Soooo what I’m getting is that the Mercy bow “Fixed/ -healed- ” corn’s shy scared personality by creating this evil form, but it WASN’T consented by corn who is now suffering because of being to shy and scared to shoot the bow in the first place.

@@crome212 "No evil", but the outwardly civil Corn seems to lack empathy, and be more manipulative. It's like both sides aren't just swapping bodies, but they're also swapping a few parts of the personalities along the way. Or perhaps Anxious/Angry Axolotl is more instinctive, but that same Anxious/Angry side is more calm in a human body.

Corn hasn't been alright for years. Not since the Black Tezcatlipoca traumatized him as a child. That wound has been festering for long enough. Mercy Bow is forcing a healing.

Poor Jose, having to deal with all this spirit nonsense. Also Snek Corn stop being a brat challenge. Calamity's a good match for him. She's not taking any nonsense. He's so manipulative! I notice it seems like his physical form changes a bit every time he switches, like his unbalanced double-soul is continuously fluid, trying to regain equilibrium, while at the same time at least one side is constantly vying for control. I love the way you story-tell. The little scenes like human(??) Corn in the water's reflection interacting with the jackalope, or even just Jose struggling his way out of a bush.

Why does Corn's situation make me think of BMO and Football from Adventure Time? Both sides aren't evil, they just want be in control of their body. Also Anxious Corn being relaxed while brushing the Jackolope is adorable and relatable!

That's pretty much what it is, but it's all Corn. The part we got to know him as: the scaredy cat, and the other part that he secretly held underneath all that fear. We call it "Axolotl" but it's really just Corn if he wasn't so controlled by fear. So...we're seeing a hidden reality about Corn: he's not a kind person. Not evil, sure, but it's no wonder the Mercy Bow screwed him over. I mean Wrip wasn't kidding when she said Corn doesn't listen to anyone but Kitty. "Axolotl" is that taken to what is logically is if it wasn't fear: arrogance. Compassion and arrogance don't mix well.

as far as i remember, corn was a twin spirit. which is (possibly) only mentioned in the comic. so the act of violence led to internal discord, one is full of compassion, the other a rather eternal kind of view, with less regard for physical life.

the thing with corns trauma is he wasnt fully consumed by the black ick, he saw almost everyone else and his closest be consumed before it was sealed. As the show clearly demonstrates there is a form of pain as it takes over and then lets you basically become eternal sleep. ( or rather peaceful nothingness in a sense). But no one else seems to remember (or mention) the pain before the nothingness. Poor corn never got to experience the nothingness. On top of which corn is explained to be two entities into one. Which explains a little of his sort of bi polar nature. The rattle snake side of corn started showing its face after he bit someone. So something about that moment started to seperate the two mindsets. Originally they worked in a sort of cohesion, but after the moment a child (charles?) got bitten did the snake show. And once the mercy bow was fired did the snake and axolotl split (it may require additional fires) as it seems to be a physival varient to explain corns path of healing. However, corns healing is also in how two mindsets must work together in one body. The mercy bow seemed to also give the two versions of corn a break from each other hence they swap when viewing each other in something mirror based. They need to see the others face and understand how they must continue. The full axolotl form i dont have as much of an explanation other than it being a full embodyment of corns anguish, as when it becomes human it seems to show a level of control and tolerance. The mind that is the "snake" is not just its physical apperence but also in how he uses his words. And the one people call Xototl (?) Seems to show the side that literally cuts through the bullshit. Someone else mentioned snake corn gaining a strand of hair after doing some tasks. Which would indicate even if he was in the mirror he STILL experienced the act of those tasks. Xolotls animal form is acting as the bare bones under everything corn is, it is running specifically as each extreme emotion ( severe pain, sadness, anger) and it lashed out because it may not know how to manage those emotions . But notice this corn showed ONLY when the human snake corn touched the mirror. And xolotl shows itself as human when it is in a manageable environment (an asylum in this time would have proved to be extreme stress). Xolotls spirit form is directly connected to still being a 4 year old reliving the trauma of black ick, meanwhile the snake of corn has grown up and moved on.
