“Stack and Tilt is great for irons, but it doesn’t work with the driver, right?”
WRONG! In fact, Stack & Tilt co-founder, Andy Plummer, will tell you that Stack & Tilt was DESIGNED FOR THE DRIVER!
So if you’ve “tried” Stack & Tilt, but can’t get it to work with the driver, then you’re doing it wrong.
Today’s video will explain how having your WEIGHT FORWARD for the driver is the gateway to greater DISTANCE, and the ability to DRAW the ball with ease. Swinging this way also removes the variable that shifting your weight back and forth brings which is the root cause of your inconsistency, weak slices, and lack of distance. It's also kinder to your body!
Once you understand HOW to swing with your weight forward, you’ll never want to do it any other way!

Wish I could hit the "like" button 1000 times. It's thanks to you (and Nick Taylor's) content on the GT Asia channel that I finally grokked S&T. I was totally sold "intellectually" on S&T ages ago (had the hardcover book, DVDs, and spoke with Andy & Mike at the PGA Orlando over a decade ago). But I never could execute on the range or course to my satisfaction. Thus I abandoned the wisdom for a jumble of other methodologies over the years. I cringe at the monetary value of range balls I wasted in the interim. But you and Nick have been so clear, consistent, and generous with your explanations that I've finally been able to realize the ball striking I always knew was in reach. I went from a 15 index to an 8 last season simply because I stopped fiddling and searching and just stuck with and refined the "ten word" basics and translated them into my on-course feels & intents.

Great video Rob. Been playing rubbish lately, and then my mate said to me today “you were much better when you did that stack and tilt thing”. I think I went away from it when I had a lesson (conventional). I watched loads of your videos a couple years ago, glad you’re still around cos you explain concepts so well. I’ve subscribed to your new channel and am officially back to S&T 👍👍

Excellent video. A golf instructor steered me away from stack and tilt 15-20 years ago. I had excellent iron strikes using stack and tilt, but struggled with the driver back then. This video was very helpful and made me decide to give it another go in my next practice session.

Same here, only I was steered away only in May this year in a lesson. And although it did make me hit more up on the ball, it made my strike location irregular, for the logical reasons explained by Rob and the S&T book. Glad I am back where to where I feel most comfortable with driver after watching Robs excellent explanation videos. (I was taught 25 years ago that the low point was AT the ball, didn't take any lessons after floating happily around hcp 18 and after I finally learned about proper low point location just 13 months ago, I still manage only 2 degrees down with irons. And 1.5 degrees up on average with driver. Old patterns die hard, but to get strike location right is so much more adding value than getting swing speed up) Cut hcp by 4 strokes, which may not seem much but I found out (thanks to shot scope watch) that over time I had developed a low digit hcp level short game to compensate for the trouble I would get myself into regularly between tee and green. What I now notice is that I need to rely less on it this season..

Your new series of videos is fantastic - very clear, detailed explanations. I especially appreciate the additional emphasis on the “wrench” position/weight left at address. In the past, I have done the wrench drill and would hit every shot almost perfect. I would wonder to myself, why don’t I just play like this? I was already a Stack & Tilt practitioner. Your advocacy of the wrench has inspired me to push the hips forward at setup even more and play this way.

Watching the video of Rory it is apparent that he pre-sets his weight on his trail foot, then shifts his weight during the swing to his lead foot whereupon ball contact takes place. While ball contact is made when his weight is over his lead foot, as yours is, I believe that forward movement is what creates the tremendous power he possesses. Without that weight shift forward the golfer will either need to rotate faster or swing faster, both of which will lead to errant shots.
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment and observation, but it's not the way it works. All swings can/will produce errant shots. Adding a weight shift isn't necessary to create power.

Rob, I've always valued your instruction... My key driver move/swing initiator is along the lines of what you discuss in this video - my first move/swing thought is... left hip toward the target i.e. a lateral movement. My thought on the iron swing is different - it is right hip starting the downswing i.e. I don't think there is as much lateral movement with the irons - especially shorter irons - as there is with driver. Does the above make sense to you?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 5 ай бұрын
There's a large amount of lateral movement with all the clubs, but you're right to say it's the most with the driver. 👍🏻

Rob, I’m interested in weighted speed stick training to increase my swing speed (also called over speed training). My concern is that in the online drills using the trainer - they employ a huge weight shift back where the lead foot comes off the ground. Will this hurt me when I employ Stack and Tilt, where my weight never shifts back? In other words, create bad habits? Will speed training in this manner help me?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 7 ай бұрын
That's a great question. I've seen speed training help some people and hurt others. I would make the point that there are lots of ways to add power/speed to a golf swing without shifting the centres of the swing back and forth. I would encourage you to explore these options first before any specific speed training program.
