CX500 was a great bike anyway, I had one, snobs didn't like it, real people did. Amazing how it keeps fathering specials 40-years on. 70k was a fair mileage, I'd like to have heard more about what was done to renovate the motor. How much wear did you find in the bores? New piston rings? What about the valve train and especially the cam-chain tensioner? I remember this could be an issue although not on my bike. No mirrors? In London? Not for me, but each to their own. It's a nice-looking thing, you must be very chuffed with it.

Beautiful! Though hopefully you can get some securities installed on that bike. Maybe an RFID based module to deter wankers from running beyond your remote's range (IF the bike is running), or with a tracker so the cops can pay them a visit to their home. Some unrelated experiences to share with you: I had worse during the rise of catalytic converter theft around 2020 on my Ford. Since then, my new cat has safeguard that takes grinding to literal hours for getting it out, and just precaution my bike also has a security pack with tracker included from Scorpio. Don't go cheap on your security after finalizing your bike's build, that's all.

I wouldn't call it a polished turd like some because I owned various CXs for over 20 years, ridden all over the UK on them and have a soft spot for them. Looked after they were a solid reliable light tourer/hack. I'll admit I don't get the hipster cafe racer thing but your bike your money and all that. What I do take exception to is the compromised rear frame and suspension which is bad, possibly dangerous mod ( I wont call it engineering) The twin shock swinging arm was never designed to be stressed that way and I doubt that mod has ever been type approved. When Honda went to monoshock suspension on the CX range, they did it like engineers not cowboys. Pick up a 1983 Eurosport swinging arm and compare it to a 1980 one and you'll see immediately how the later ones are way sturdier than the early TS ones. They didn't just tack a lug on the frame tube either, it was all well thought out and built to a standard. Form over function IMO and way too much money thrown at a bike that isn't and never was any kind of racer.

How did you get a road worthy without a rear mudguard?
@dtorred78462 жыл бұрын
how do you deal with the splash from the rear tire when the road is wet?
@alexwilsonpottery37332 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that too. Living in Britain, on a bike with no rear mudguard means a wet arse all day long when it inevitably rains. Maybe he carries a spare pair of undies, trousers, socks, shoes…maybe a shirt - that’s getting to be a fairly large man-purse!

This is an attempt to polish a turd. I had the misfortune to ride a CX when the series was not long out of production. It stands as the worst handling bike I have ever experienced. I hoped despatch riders would have worn out all the ones left to the point of being scrapped. Unfortunately, some have survived. Customisers can put the best bits available on these monstrosities but the frame, swingarm & engine installation always limit the benefits. They were known as Plastic Maggots. That sums up their appeal really...

@@carlosgooglemaps94 I don't mind ridicule but my comment wasn't ignorant. I rode a CX & it was terrible. They were not liked much in their day & I don't see the appeal now. Honda got it wrong with that one. I think the only bike they made in the 70s that was worse was the CB500T. No doubt some misguided/nostalgic people like them as well then waste time, money & effort customising. It has to be said it's not worth it.
