Cafe Racer (Honda CX 500 / CX 650 by Racer TV/Oficina das Motas)

Finally, after 10 months, the end of my Honda CX 650 project.
This is the 5th and last episode about this build.
The motorcycle used on this project, is a Honda CX 650 Custom, but by technical purposes, i uncluded Honda CX500 on the video's Title.
Don't worry about the words "The End" on the video's Thumbnail.
Because there are little things that i will have to change on this Honda CX Cafe Racer.
From time to time, i am going to bring some new videos, in which i will clarify everything i learned during this build.
The builder of this beautiful machine, is Leonel Ribeiro, owner of "Oficina das Motas", located in Portugal.
The name of this Honda CX Cafe Racer, is Frankenstein.

I've been watching for years, and every time a CX showed up I thought...Eh...not my cup of tea. You turned what I viewed as an Ugly Duckling into a Beautiful Black Swan. This is one of the greatest customs I have ever seen, if not the greatest. The sound, the sound, the sound of that thing is so compelling. I bought a custom Duc 695 that sounds very similar, just on the basis of this sound. Magic.

The entire time I was watching this video I had chills... The sound coming from that beautiful bike, I even think beautiful is an understatement cuz its just amazing, reminded me of my grandfather's old Mustang. When he was alive he would take me on sunday up mountain road and we would just Cruise i loved those time we spend together. I've been saving up money to make my own custom cafe bike and I've looked hard to see what really stands out to me and just resonates in my soul and I think I just found it I'm going to use what you have created as a platform to reference off of and build my own you did an amazing job I hope by the time I'm done I can build something half as good as yours... Nice, perfect work. When I saw the steering I notice that there is no thank for the break fluid, cause I have the original Honda CX 500 , from 1978. After 23 years sitting in one room with sized engine, after so manny years I took action find a used engine in Iowa, send to Europe and restored the bike. CX 500 is my youth years lovely machine. In Germany they call the bike " Guelle pumpe", like Rose oil pump. I do not know how much it is gonna cost that work , really that bike is top of the line. 650 are rare not common like 500. I have Honda Valkyrie Touring 2003 , I've Suzuki Hayabusa 2001, custom with a lot of chrome, spikes , custom made ostrich leader seat, Yamaha Virago, Kawasaki Ninja 750 GPZR, but CX is my lovely bike cause is connected with a sweet memories. That way I did not, sale, did not scraped, just left sitting for 23 years. Once again the bike build by the Portuguese guys is impeccable type of classic Art. Congratulation.

Iam inlove with cafe racer bikes and i have to say, this is the most iconic one I've seen thus far. The diablo custom made Royal Enfield continental360 and interceptor into cafe racers are not far behind. But just the build and the rawness of this one sets it apart. I have owned a few cx500 when i used to ride in London, never thought it would be possible to get that incredible sound, best i came up with was a Motad 2-1, but no after crackle on the over-run. Rode on Pirelli Phantoms in all weathers, no one could catch me in the wet, excellent choice. Amazing job, excellent details and craftsmanship. Nice to own a bike that puts a huge grin on the face!

Now to address the electrical. It's easy to get your wires crossed and not realize they're crossed when getting things working. Especially when working with all new wiring. Continuity, check, voltage (w/o engine running) check, lights, check, engine runs and lights work (on a less than fully charged battery) check! Success!!! Until the battery is topped off, then the Stator/Alternator and Reg/Rectifier have to do something with the over abundance of electricity with no where to go. Where you've shot your self in the foot is using all the LED lights. They draw a very small percentage of the power the charging system delivers, so the battery charges very quickly and stays charged. As this happens, the factory type Reg/Rectifier can't handle sustained periods of absorbing this increase in power absorption. Result? The Reg/Rec goes bad IN A HURRY!! The solution, albeit more expensive, will save you TONS of headache in the long run. Get a MOSFET!! Problem solved once you make sure you're directing all of the charging through it to the rest of the bike. Seriously...don't skimp here. The Mosfet absorbs a LOT more heat and is designed to NOT fail under the increased voltage dispersal associated with using LED lighting. Many people have abandoned LED lighting for this very reason. Not realizing that simply installing the MOSFET cures the issue. Worth saving up for my Friend! There are numerous well put together articles that explain the differences and why you should use the MOSFET in place of the traditional diode type Reg/Rec. Cheers again my Friend! Zip~
