Church near me built a big one as a boys project. The weight I think was a pallet of concrete blocks the projectile was a coffee can full of cement about a 10 lb can Very well built and very well-educated system. The boys learned a lot about physics. Added flashing along the slide, the ramp so it was slicker, less friction... I think it went about 300 yd if I remember right

something i never really see talked about in the slinging community is about Ammunition Holding bags , in almost every painting where balearic slingers are depicted they always had a bag either crossbody or on their waist but i never see people talk about those bags, you should make a video on them it would be cool.
@davidmorningstar Жыл бұрын
Good point. I reload with my right hand and keep my ammo on the right, others reload with their left hand from a bag on the left. There is a slinger carved on Trajan's column with ammo in a fold of the cloak over the left arm, various modern slingers have tried this and said it was horrible. There are two Greek illustrations of slingers with a small bag hanging from the left elbow, this would work well for a right handed reload but I can't think why a cross body bag wouldn't be better.

@stevena1057 күн бұрын
I started with tennis balls less than a year ago. Once you get a feel for it, moving on to something else isn't that much of a risk. The biggest risk is a pouch-slip, but you get a feel for when a projectile is seated well too.

I personally think that staff sling is much too short. A longer staff and sling should add more distance and speed to your throws.
@davidmorningstar Жыл бұрын
I have a video on staff slings. The sling length cannot be changed, it sets the release timing. The staff can be longer but it becomes more cumbersome to reload with.

Some people say that David used a staff sling in the Bible, because he took his staff to face Goliath, but I have serious doubts about this statement. The shepperd sling was very common in the Mediterranean in ancient times, used by greeks, romans, assyrians, babylonians, egyptians and celts, and is still used today in the Middle East by young people. The staff sling, on the other hand, was a siege weapon, and as far as I know there are no references to it being used in the region in ancient times. It makes no sense for a young shepherd to use a siege weapon when the common sling is still used today by children taking care of livestock. The staff was probably a way of symbolizing David's status as a humble shepherd.
