Stairway Mysteries: Exploring East Lake's Surprises in China!

Welcome to East Lake, part of Wuchang in Wuhan, China. Would you climb hundreds of stairs for a view of a lake and to visit an ancient tower? Is it really ancient at all? Today we answer that question
East Lake is China's second largest urban lake and a popular tourist attraction. Along with the natural scenery, there is also some man made stuff, especially sites celebrating the old Kingdom of Chu, from the Warring States period of Chinese history
Along the way we meet some of the friendly locals who teach this foreigner in China a bit more about Chinese history and culture.

Yeah man most people outside of China never heard of Wuhan until Covid - but I lived there for years so it's good to be able to show some of the non-Covid stuff!

Know you from the rugby but absolutely love these videos, I enjoy how you just chat with normal people going about their day. Going up those stairs in the heat reminded me of when I went to Barcelona during the summer and took a long walk up the hill. Keep in mind I’m Irish too so we are used to even colder temperatures than NZ so you can be certain I was dying and also soaked with sweat!

Cheers man yeah man I enjoy having a yarn with people - happily most people are happy to say hello back. Also 100% man I think an Irishman going up a hill in the hot weather is an equivalent, lol. All the locals seems incredulous I found it hot at all 😂

Oh wow man that is a big hike! I’d love to know how many steps you’ve done each day in Wuhan because it seems like a lot! I loved the ride down the hill 😂 I don’t think I would cope well in the heat there though, in Spain and Italy Ruby & I just melted! Cheers for another awesome video

Yeah I spent a lot of that day on that electric buggy so that day was only about 20,000 steps! I think I was being a softie with the heat - too many years in NZ! But I think UK to Spain would be a similar difference

Terrific tour, thanks for the commentary...only thing I missed was some pix of your family.. hmmm.... heat. Just heat? Not a big problem. When I was training for Rugby, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, I would run in 100 degree (f.) weather without a problem, but the humidity was less than 20%. Doable in your twenties, when you are fit, and your first match is in a few weeks. The squares of grass? In the states that's called "sod" It's grown in places called "turf farms". That was back in Maryland where I grew up. No turf farms in New Mexico. Too dry.

Another great installment. Japan also has it's fair share of faux ancient buildings. I "climbed" a mountain in Japan that had steps from the foot to the very top. We're stupid so we did it in the middle of the summer.

I started off using cash but then pretty much switched to the apps man! Every shop I went to just assumed I'd use the app - when I pulled out cash they were a bit like "oh, ok sure"
