There is no consensus on greatest, this definately should make anyones top ten. I will say that I viewed about a dozen historical live performances of jimmy, and none of them stood up to the precise vibrato and gorgeous tone she laid down on this track. However the studio version is the standard. As much as stairway gets lampooned, if you havent heard it in a decade or so and maybe one night youre on a long drive and an FM station plays it its fresh again and you realize what a truly monumental recording it was. You understand why it was the top requested of all time and why people thought theyd made a deal with the devil to be so fucking good. Then look at all the other great tracks on that album, and the next.

Funny you mention it however because the tone of her rig reminded me of skynyrd or maybe the outlaws when I heard this first. Clean but dripping with reverb and delay. Modern amps are so versatile.

It sounds exactly like it should, I just love that part. But because I heard this solo the first time in the mid 80s , when I was 14-15, in a dark hot dancing room, the vibe here is slightly off, she is distractingly beautiful. It's ok to live by "one should always look his/her/etc best in public", so nothing is perfect...which is fine.

I’ve been playing guitar for nearly 50 years and I can say that you’re a natural musician. Every note just flows like a perfect river. Seriously, I have taught hundreds of students over the years, but only once in a while does anyone come to me that has your gift for music. Your timing is impeccable, but nothing seems forced or mechanic. I have known,any guitarists who played all the right notes, but it just sounded mechanical, like a machine playing. Your feel for every note is very fluid. I hope you accomplish a lot with your gift.

@@damondoran3945 Comment Let’s see…. I started playing guitar when I was 11 years old, around 1971. I am 63 years old and have played professionally for many of those years. Live band, studio work, you name it. I also survived an intestinal transplant, both small and large,in 2010. I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a terminal cancer, in 2013. Since then I have had a bone marrow transplant and multiple chemotherapies in the last ten years. It has left me with poor eyesight, but my hearing is still excellent, although an antibiotic used did cause me to go deaf, so I had to have a series of steroid shots directly into my ear drums three times in each ear over a two month period and miraculously, it completely restored my hearing. I was commenting on what I heard. One look at those two inch nails on her left hand and you know she wasn’t playing this, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t record it. I’ve made several music videos and I never worried about whether my fingering was perfect for the camera. All music for music videos is prerecorded ahead of time. I guess you didn’t know that? I didn’t know if she recorded it earlier and had fake nails glued on for the video? In fact, I was typing the comment while listening, so I didn’t really pay attention to her fingering specifically. Whoever played the guitar solo was very talented. Maybe you ought to seek more information before calling someone a liar. I’ve probably been playing guitar longer than you’ve been alive.

@@damondoran3945. Although I have lived in Florida for the last 40 years, I was born and raised in Maryland, which was where I was trained as a guitarist. I studied under Anniah C. Bryant, who went by the name “Hank” Bryant to his friends and students. Mr. Bryant was the lead guitarist for the Whitehouse orchestra, he backed some of the greatest talent of our times, from Ella Fitzgerald to Barbra Streisand and any other artist you can name between the 1970s and 80s. Hank Bryant was the most sought after guitar teacher in the Washington metropolitan area and he did not take beginners. He required an audition just to be selected as a student. I had been self-taught for a year before auditioning for him at age 12, he not only selected me, but told my parents that I had the most natural ears he had ever seen. Mr. Bryant was so well known in the music Industry, that other Maryland/Virginia native Roy Clark sought out Hank to teach him to read music. Clark was self-taught for many years, but couldn’t read music. When his career peaked, it was important he learn to read tablature, so he selected Hank Bryant as his teacher. Roy Clark was still taking lessons from Mr. Bryant at the time I was his student in the early 1970s. Mr. Bryant had signed guitars in his home studio from players like Chet Akins, Roy Clark, Les Paul and Mary Ford and classical guitarists such as Charlie Byrd. I think I would qualify as a guitarist after being formally trained by Hank Bryant, don’t you?

My son who is now 40 years old wanted to play guitar at 10 years old so I took him to a place called Mr. Bills He picked out a Jackson Dinky and I didn’t see who was instructor was. I came back after the first lesson and this dude about 6’5”” 300 lbs with long hair and a beard came out and asked are you Chris’s father and I thought oh God what did you do now. I said yes he said he doesn’t need me. I put on the record, and he just plays. He graduated from Columbia College #1 in his class in Acoustical Design Engineering. And now his son has the same gift.
