The point is a vehicle with at least four tires uses no rubber, a float plane may or may not have wheels but still cost rubber.

Ahhh yes, the Armored car, introduced in LR for anti-partisan duties, but ultimatly outclassed by WW1 machinegun-lawnmowers after NSB introduced the tank designer.

imo with NSB they should have folded armoured cars into the light tanks, with the stats that go well, and with the caveat for them that they need to use the wheel or half track suspension, so that at least you would be able to make something decent to use as a line btn of your divisions, and as an incentive to design those, well, give the supression bonus for the role and maybe make it so a line AC btn gives recon bonus at the cost of hardness (or something) also with armoured cars you can create variants where you increase (some of) their stats, tho you can only touch armour, gun, engine and reliability, at the cost of a lot of army XP (400 total to max an AC tech level) and production cost (IC go brrrrr)

Why Armored Cars suck in a noobs perspective: -For Garrison, one single division of cavalry is better at doing that -For speed, mechanized or motorised do the job better for less -For armor, literally anything is better, there is no reason to grab this over a light tank -For support, Light tank is better at giving armor -For cost efficiency, you are better using light tanks or just Infantry and artillery

Pretty sure the best nation to do this with is Italy. Cos I'm 95% sure they have a production bonus to armored cars via focus tree.

Yeah, they have a focus that gives them -10% production cost, +5% reliability, as well as 2x75% cost reductions for mobile warfare, and a 150% research bonus to armoured cars.

I'm just curious if there is a scenario where you would pick motorized+cars instead of motorized+lighttanks? Like you say, maaaybe with Italy the lower production cost/resource requirement and the slightly higher speed later on could be worth it? But yeah just raw cars is a meme, worse than artillery only xD

@@acey195 Oh yeah, early game their actually kind of good. If you do it late game with a semi chunky light tank template in the recon role you can actually manage enough armour to not be terrible, and you'll usually melt tank divisions.

italy may have some pretty good bonuses for it, but even with 10% cost reduction and 5% reliability bonuses, it is still realy bad. trust me, when BBA came in a saw these bonuses and whent full on armored cars replacement for tanks, seeing if would do anything, and it did not whent well...

I used armoured cars in the RoN mod in the 1900 start date, and honestly had a similar experience. At first it goes kinda well because they act like light tanks but as soon as the enemy can peirce you you get screwed.

1900 do you mean a mod if so the mod i remenber with that start date is the rise of nations and when i played the ai was bugged and couldnt make planes and tank nor piercing units in other start dates where the ai starts with planes and tanks researched they started using them by the way in 1900start date i was able to conquer the world by 1920s with just armored cars and planes.

Challenge: mechanized only The only infantry you can use is mechanized infantry and amphtracks because they are basically mechanized marines. You can use artillery tanks and other stuff like that bonus challenge: do it as France.

i mean u really cant get mechanized till like 38-39 so unless u literally dont plan to go to war till 41-42 its a pretty pointless challenge, similar to rocket artilliery you dont get it so late that its just a bad challenge

Here's the thing, if I'm not mistaken, you can use the tank designer to give wheels to tanks. That turns them into armored cars/trucks, right? *even though it'll still say that they're tanks in the game.

Tank with wheels are a things, they are used on light tank because they are easier to maintain, eat less oil and have higher max speed. The French AMX 10 RC is a good exemple. (and yes ti's a tank, it's called a tank by their army and it's in every aspect a tank)

AMX-10 RC is a tank destroyer as the Italian Centauro, not an actual tank, it is capable of dealing against tanks, but it can't do what a tank can do, plus, for a vehicle to be classified as a tank, it needs to have tracks, no rubber wheels (Lorrain 40t still have tracks if you want to put it as an example of "wheeled tank")

The best "Armored Car" you can do is just take a Light Tank and slap wheels on it instead of tracks.

Heres a fun challenge: Do the "Not One Step Back" Achievement, but start in the 1939 scenario. I've tried it and its quite hard, but not impossible.

if you did treaty with the soviets you could've gotten 2x 100% research bonus for armor, which curiously counts armored cars too and get those Pumas earlier. also you can increase it's stats with "create variant" just like you would with mechanized but at a cost to production.

maybe try again but you can use support-units and/or when you create a Division, the last slot of a line can be what ever you want, so you can boost your armored cars wit other units at a heavy cost

no techs or doctrines (really) effect Armour cars. they can´t really be boosted. even cavalry is better. also no General perks effect Armoured car, it is not Mot,cav, inf or armour.

Obscure note on the lack of rubber for the armoured cars. Before synthetic rubber production took off, countries with a lack of ready access to natural rubber experimented with all sorts of different wheels and tyres. Because it was blockaded, Germany already experimented with steel tyres in World War I.

So the more realistic option is to do Light SP Artillery only, and you have to use wheeled suspension. At that point it's basically an armored car that doesn't suck as bad.

Well, you managed to increase Organization through the focus tree by more then 100%. That's good, 20 Org is bad, but it's not "German looses against Poland" bad. The real problem was that HP were still virtually nonexistant, no buffs there are the cars took so much damage. But yeah, Armored cars are the most useless.

I wish PDX reworked those less used equipments into something actual usable. Stuff like rockets, recon planes, anything of reccon, signal company, strat/tat bombers and others. Most of these equipments are either worst than useless or you research them in like 1945 when the game is basically over. I played hoi4 for 1000 hours and I never used signal companies, reccon or amphibious tanks just because they are simply not worth it. In multiplayer they may be significant but in singleplayer, its just waste of IC.

I've tried it, it's a solid eh. It gets to be ok if you max the armour on them, and on mechanized then make a mechanized+armoured car division, but even then it's not great. The cars are only really good for garrisons and recon companies.

Their okay with motorized being the bulk of the division being them. In fact, I use them instead of light tanks to save on production.

Army Restrictions 100k men in the field MAX (Bonus Points if its 7 infantry 3 Calvary), no airforce, no armored cars/tanks, Disarmed Nation Conscription Navy Limits: 6 battleships/battlecruisers/Heavy Cruiser, 6 Light cruisers, 24 Destroyers industrial Restrictions: No Lend Leasing to nations (Except to France, UK, USA), Free Trade, Civilian Economy (you may temporarily Ignore the treaty if you civil war to become Democratic until the civil war ends)

I notice you didn't add points to your cars. I don't know if it would have made a difference, but you should be able to beef up their stats the way armor and air used to work before the designer was added. Challenge idea for you: -New World Order Run as any European country, United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand. -No matter what, you're not allowed to declare war on any of the countries listed above, with the exception of communist countries, but you can declare war on any other country except fascists regardless of who the target is aligned with. -You may not join another country's faction, but you may start one of your own. -Any country you conquer that isn't or cannot become your core territory must be puppeted and allowed to earn back its freedom, or in the case of an ongoing war, must be allowed to form a collaboration government. You may choose not to call puppets or allies into a war, however. -If you choose Hitler's Germany or Mussolini's Italy, you must keep historical mode on. However, you may go non-historical for any country that doesn't start fascist or if you choose to depose Benny to install either of the other fascist leaders. -Bonus round, requires access to the console. Do you think you could pull off the challenge by starting off as Germany, choosing to oppose Hitler, and then taking command of the Reich after Himmler stages a coup? This would be an absolutely cursed run, but talking about deposing Mussolini got me thinking about that. BTW, I'm not choosing arbitrary rules to trip you up. This is how I always play. Admittedly, I am a terrible player and have yet to complete the challenge before I cock everything up and turn it into an unmitigated disaster.
