@@panzerforelle126 That wall is a detriment. if you shoot at a 60 degree angle at the sprocket. It kills the whole turret crew. Its better they remove it. It creates a new spalling after sponging the spall of the armor behind the sprocket.

I still dont understand the requirements for fuel explosions. They happen rather often on russian high tiers but you never know when the fuel tank is gonna eat your round and spall or kill the tank.

​@@congsandungua8776 You do know that fuel in any combustion engine is EXPLODED? So fuel is very much an explosive, and diesel, for example, is set to explode by compressing it. Would it make sense then for a tank's diesel fuel tank to explode when a high-speed projectile rams into it? The projectile would create areas of high pressure when passing through diesel fuel tank, likely causing it to explode (which is the reason whu Russian/Soviet tanks experience fuel tank explosions more often - they use diesel more commonly, while petrol/gasoline doesn't explode as easily when compressed and requires a spark plug in an engine)

you can find external fuel tanks that are seemingly inside the tank on other vehicles as well, since it basically means that they are external to the crew compartment. I'm not sure what the exact requirement for it is, but the logic seems to be that there needs to be some sort of a separation from the crew. if the wall between the fuel tank and the crew is also penetrated in addition to the fuel tank, then it basically acts the same as a hit to an internal fuel tank would.

I always noticed this since it was introduced. Seems like the same thing as the Abrams fuel tanks that are beside the driver with armour around it. But instead of armour it’s a spall liner (same colour) and they might have an exhaust at the bottom or something

I’ve actually seen a picture of the underside of an Abrams that I believe can act as a blowout in case of a fuel tank ignition irl. Also there is a firewall of sorts between the driver and the fuel tanks in the Abrams. Not a spall liner, but it could act kinda like one

If Gaijin would just make ammunition explosions a 100% chance and remove fuel tank explosions i think everyone would be much happier. There is no reason ammo shouldn't explode and no reason why "combustible" fuel is explosive.

For consistencies sake ammo should explode when hit, but there are a variety of reason it doesn't that aren't easily fixed, mainly volumetric, module interactions eating spall, and just the general sphagetti coded nature of war thunder. Also, I see no particular reason why fuel tank explosions shouldn't be a thing, especially in the case of vehicles like the T-72 and T-80 where the crew-fuel separation is negligible. If a fuel tank is squarely hit by a chunk of self-igniting DU moving at almost 2km per second, I see no reason why it wouldn't basically explode.

It would be nice to know more about how the different fuel tanks work in game to make a more conclusive guess tho. Well there's 100% a bias for Russia, just probably nothing like what people say Just look at the different qualifications for vehicles: T-80 model with only 1 having gen 3 thermals? Throw em in! But some AuF1s used retrofit ammo? Then that's all it gets in game! Its a development cycle bias really

Dude you can't belive how man times their stoopid armor absorbed my shots with 0 damage. Even direct hit to barrel or weak spots. I'm not even talking about that stupid driver port. That shit is a weak spot but the windows becomes black but absorbes the shell. It is crazy. We can say that I got gaijined but happens way too often that kept me thinking that there is russian bias like back in the days of ww2 era. But german bias growing for me too. 😂😂😂

Hey Zenturion. You should check out the American SB2U-3. The gun model for the rear gunner is massive in X-Ray view, he’s using it like a telescope as it phases through his face. I think it may have been the visual model as well in previous versions of the game but I can’t find the screenshot.

the funny thing is diesel cant explode like that, for diesel to explode it needs high pressure, high temperature and loads of air now a penetrated fuel tank has no pressure inside, the fuel cool down the penetrating rod and there is no air, so why is it explode like an ammo rack?

Gaijin doesn't seem to understand that DIESEL is NOT easy flammable. Gasoline is. You take a Lighter,Pour Gasoline on the Floor,it lights almost instantly on spark. Diesel takes literally a torch continuously put on to Burn. A Round or Kinetic motion that ignite a spark with intense heat wont make the Diesel Blow up with insane Pressure. Gasoline will.

Pardon my laziness to search for actual source in a forum from decade ago, but there are soviet reports on losses of T-34 tanks to Ju-87 cannon fire where tanks burned down. You may think, yes, okay, those are G variants with their 3,7cm gun, but nope, the reports were dated months before G was even tested. Those losses were to D variant, which only had MG-151/20 low velocity cannons which can't pen T-34 armor anywhere. And T-34 is a diesel tank if you recall right. So how do they burn? Well, there's a theory that external fuel tank fire can spread with fuel to engine deck and below, catching oil and rubber on fire first. And that likewise incendiary ammo is NOT your small zippo.

T-90M fuel tank being exterior is intentional, as IRL T-90M fuel tanks are fuel explosion proof due to them being self sealing, as well as having alluminium sponge-like filler to not allow fuel explosion inside the fuel tank affect big areas, as well as fuel explosion going outside of fuel tank. I don’t know if bug related to T-90M fuel tanks exploding (which is bug present since the day T-90M was added) is yet fixed or not. Bug related to fuel tanks creating spall was fixed with last significant update.
