Not playing the previous games shouldnt be a problem. Look at the witcher 3; most people never heard of the series before it, not many played part 2 and almost nobody played part 1 (except for going back after playing part 3).

I started with 2, then went back for 1 because I had gotten a proper PC. The first two games are severely underrated narrative-wise (and the first one predicted Nioh's stance system years earlier. Had they polished that in future games it would've been great)

Youre forgetting The Witcher 3 is based from the books. Aftermath of their own version. Unfortunately CDPR killed a lot of good characters and turned some into worse. Like Radovid, turning him into madman and awful. Sorcerer who brought Triss from little statue back. Kalkstein offscreen. And Yen turned into manipulator which many fans are blynd. Such a shame.

The last time i was this excited for a game was when i saw an add for dragon age origins in a game informer magazine. Now a new dragon age is coming out, and I could care less about it. I want stalker 2. Its making me feel like a kid again.

Basically different demography. It wasnt as big in the west because back in the day they were much into cod, halo and bf series, Even in Asia you gotta be such a hardcore gamer if you knew stalker back from 10+ years ago. I'm glad stalker is becoming more global with stalker 2 existing.

My best bet is that most of today's reviewers are just not old enough to have played the originals despite the originals' success

@@MrStensnask like I mentioned, demographic differences. Not everyone outside of europe was exposed to Stalker back then especially its a PC exclusive on the time where the dumb console war was happening. To be fair 2 million is a lot back then because gaming isnt as easily accessible as today.

It baffles me that these people can give opinions about a game series they havent played and dont know basic things like what the original games are about in terms of story, setting, atmosphere or gameplay but are expecting a free pass as a "valuable perspective" while talking about a subject they have no experience with. They probably meant the branching dialogues and consequences, because thats how they were in fo3 and nv. Not necessarily a bad thing (a plus imo) and the devs already confirmed that there will be no level and skill trees so none of that Far Cry's meaningless RPG mechanics. Its an item-based progression system

Metro and STALKER might be similar but how they execute their design is vastly different from each other. One of the reasons why the devs at 4A left GSC Gameworld to form their own studio was to make a more narrative focus game whereas STALKER focuses more on the survival and exploration aspect

it looked gorgous? Are you partially blind? the game looks nowhere near as the initial gameplay trailer they showed 4 years ago. Its concerning no dynamic shadows are in the game whatsoever, everything looks bland, flat and terrible at night. It doesnt look like a UE5 game.
