I love how Zak is so trained to interloper and checks every nook and cranny despite if it’s out of the way. I pretty much play stalker exclusively and always choose to spawn in ash canyon. I know he lucked out with a AC spawn and chose random but I wouldn’t have spent any time on the detours he took. I go gold mine straight to summit, and I usually hit my well fed buff right before I leave the summit. Then to PV farm to drop things and I truck straight to HRV for my satchel. THEN I loot proper on my way back to PV. If I’m lucky enough to get the moose spawning by the hydro dam bridge I don’t bother with HRV and just let my moose hide cure at the camp office while I loot ML and MT. Then craft the satchel to help bring everything back to my base at PV. I love how this game can be played in so many different ways and they’re all valid, but I personally go immediately to max inventory weight and hit it just after week 1

trying to ascend to stalker from voyageur, this is a big help
@jasmyncarey6855 Жыл бұрын
It's such a big difference! I've played on and off for years. I have a voyager save where I made it to forsaken airfield from ML and have evaded/escaped all the wolves. No bear/moose attacks either yet and I'm past day 25. I tried a stalker save and spawned surrounded by wolves. Managed to escape to only be killed the next day by 2 of them.
@thomasandersen2534 Жыл бұрын
I like stalker more I played only voyager for a long time. Over 100 days now and only one thing I don’t like and you guys already know. Too many damn wolves ! I like the loot is less abundant so you have to be smarter with your supplies. Rifle ammo for sure is very hard to come by. I’ll replay next time with a custom play through with much less wolf spawns.
@jasmyncarey6855 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasandersen2534 I think this is my next go to. I'm on a voyager save trying to learn the maps I don't know very well and get good at hunting. I've played a 30+ day stalker run before dying because I got lost and the voyager one is just a cake walk comparatively now. I didn't know the torch + stone trick until these videos. I thought you just had to outrun them or get attacked. I had learned that if you threw a flare at them at the right time it would scare them off but it wasn't reliable at all. Now that I can deal with the wolves the game is infinitely less scary and I'm having a pretty easy time in voyager. There's so much loot and I'm such a bad hoarder. Always encumbered at least a bit even at well fed bonus lmao. I've found over 50 revolver ammo and 2 revolvers. Most days my clothes are so good my temp doesn't go down unless it's actively storming and it's not even animal hide clothing. I've killed the bear by Trappers twice just with my revolver and moved onto mountain town next to loot. It's just so easy still even after being jumped by a bear outside of Milton.

I decided to give Stalker a try the other day and I think I spawned right about where you did. Had never been in the area before but I managed to get set up in Angler's Den after dodging wolves. Funny enough the problem I ran into was running out of matches and then I ate some wolf meat, got parasites, could only find a few mushrooms, decided to move before I ran out of the last 6 matches I had, made it to a cave, set my self up there before scouting the area, got food poisoning from a fish I cooked, and eventually wasted away wandering outside looking for mushrooms not realizing that you can't die from food poisoning. 13 days altogether. Now I started a new game and I'm a little disappointed to have started right by Milton.

Maybe a day will come when Interloper is my thing, but right now Stalker is pitched kinda perfect for me. Voyaguer quickly became too easy, but Interloper requires a level of experience and map knowledge that I simply dont have. Im currently on about 80+ days on my most succesful Stalker playthrough and its a nice difficulty balance. That said you are right about the wolves. I just went to skin a bear and had to deal with three wolves on the round trip. I do think you were correct in your advice when you said you need to keep exploring. I find it can be really easy to slip into a habit of "doing the rounds" ... where you just get up, check your snares, have a little fish, do your skinning, repair your clothes, do some cooking and go to bed... rinse and repeat.

In case you didn't know, there is a faster route to get to the gold mine from where he spawned, but it requires climbing 5 ropes in a row (you can skip the first one, if you choose to go around past 4 wolves instead), so you will have to sleep in between them, most likely while being stranded on a rock shelf with barely any cover to speak of. If you've already looted another region and you have a bedroll and full clothing, and you don't get caught in a blizzard while sleeping, you can pull it off, but if you've just spawned, unless you're insanely lucky with the weather, or have a fire going for the whole 12 hours while you sleep, you'll probably just freeze to death.
@Zaknafein2 жыл бұрын
This is correct, and as Ziom says, I would not recommend it. The three ropes (not 5) are very dangerous. You need a stim, coffee or be lucky with weather so you can sleep.
@zioming2 жыл бұрын
@@Zaknafein By 5 ropes, I meant the main section of 3 ropes up and then one down to the actual mine entrance, as well as the additional rope you can climb from down in the canyon where you spawned, in order to skip the wolves. (Edit: I guess you do go down two of the three ropes here at 1:11:25 Also, I didn't know you can skip all the ropes going down :) ) There is a cave both before and after the 3 ropes, but not much cover in between them. There is however an abandoned camp with a snow shelter after the first rope, that you can use if you do get stuck up there (remember you can't initiate climbing down a rope if you're out of stamina, so a cup of coffee, or an energy drink can be a lifesaver in such situations).

The way the wolves' smell works doesn't really make any sense. It's like "oh, I smell a human carrying meat, I'll go after him." Then, when you drop the meat, the wolf is like "nah, the human dropped the meat, I'm no longer hungry. I think I might just leave". Edit: 4:39:45 I found both polaroids in a cave near the transition to Ash Canyon. One was in the plastic container, the other polaroid in the briefcase. Won't take long. In Stalker without cheesing, grind, feat and playing slow by day ~100 I had lvl 5 cooking (mostly can food, ravaged carcasses and books), harvesting (ravaged carcasses and books) and fire. Rifle (read short shooting guides before lvl4, then 25h ones), pistol and ammo crafting lvl5 just reading books, most the times, by day ~150-200 and find extra books too. Bow leveling up by making arrow and it's go very fast. Only grind I made was fishing, always finding very few books. Mending can be grind sometimes, but end up with half way to lvl5 just from books and fixing top gear around day 150, lvl5 by day ~250. My journey to all lvl5 and 500 days. Now time to watch Zaks journey.

FWIW, according to the wiki, your wrong about the crampons, Zak. They increase your climbing speed, which means it will reduce stamina, fatigue, and calorie drain from the climb (the drain rate is the same, but you climb for less time). Also they decay relatively fast while worn, so it'd probably be best only to wear them when you need them, as they're giving you fairly minimal benefits most of the time.
@Zaknafein Жыл бұрын
Wiki is wrong. They are wrong about a few things but are mostly reliable. I tested it with footage side by side :) everything was identical except sprint meter. They could have patched it but I have not noticed any difference.
@grumpkingames Жыл бұрын
@@Zaknafein tested this myself. The wiki is definitely wrong, but your commentary is still *somewhat* misleading, I'd say. The crampons slow stamina drain, as you mention. But since climbing speed lowers as stamina drains, you *do* end up climbing faster, particularly in the latter parts of a climb. So you do still end up saving a good chunk of fatigue, because of the decreased time spent climbing.

The new DLC only changes if you buy it, old save's in the long dark don't corrupt or get outdated.

Not exactly, the DLC outdates all your old saves even if you dont buy it. They reset it in December 2022. The DLC now is just added content. Even if you dont have the DLC you can no longer play old saves unless you use the Steam time capsule

@@Zaknafein Inever had problems with playing old saves and i've never even heard of steam time capsule.
