I'm stalking wild hogs with my bow in a marshy bottomland with lots of dense cover for pigs to hide in. As it gets dark, the pigs and coming in close as I'm walking in the dark woods.

Pigs are spooky at night. The noise they make, you can’t tell if it’s a giant or a 20lber. Carry a side arm in pig town. 10mm works good.

I've been a major hog hunter for years, and you might know this, but for those who don't, Wild hogs are not like let's say dogs, they don't attack you and stay on you bitting you over and over, If they ever do decide to attack you, 99% of the time they charge you and they catch you on their way by and they keep on running. So if you're ever in the woods with wild hogs around you it's best to stay near a tree so that you can just move around the tree if a hog charges you. That way even if they charge and run past you and turn around to charge you again, which is very unlikely, but if they did you can just keep the tree between you and them. Their bodies do not bend like most animals, so they're kinda like a board and not very agile, so when they're running at you they have to make wider maneuvers to turn. So just stay by a tree and circle around it and they will run off.

I believe that is some solid hands on experience information. Guys that actually hunt hogs know, a lot about them. Guys that shoot hogs as a buy catch to deer hunting have a lot more fear about and less knowledge of them. I appreciate you sharing what you know.

Ya, definitely use the surrounding areas as advantage. But the question i have tonight is even if i was in that situation like he said seeing them, barking, he said he had 20 pigs run across him infront of the river. Wouldn't you atleast turm the camera on your chest to get some sound or footage to look back apon. You cant be that scared right. It just seems like he had to make it interesting when nothing actually happened. If you read this justin. This isnt like you.

I know what you mean! I spooked a bunch of pigs under a feeder and pigs were running everywhere, piglets running under my feet and all this happening at dark thirty. A big sow was off in the grass about mid thigh and started growling at me and all I had with me was my bow. I was getting out of there as fast as I could, needless to say I have never done that again! Not without having a gun with me. Take your hand gun with you next time? Have you ever tried Dead down wind ? It works, I had a small spike walk up to me with in 5 feet when I was hunting from the ground one morning. Keep your line tight and your powder dry.

Yeh I agree pigs are real creepy at night, my and my grandfather had gotten to the trail to the stand one morning and we had left my chair at the house and it was pitch black at the time, so my grandfather leaves me on the path with a shotgun except he has the shells and the whole time I can hear pigs surrounded me and it was terrifying lol…

You wont believe it but try buying 4 or 5 4ft furring strip a 3ftx20ft piece clear plastic film. Make into 5 stakes in a circle or square and heav-duty staple the plastic to the stakes. Now you can just pull it up wrap it up and move to a new location and tap it in anywhere. A kitchen hieght folding chair works perfect so you can pop up and look above the plastic and take a shot. Hint: the secret is the clear plastic. Dont substitute for something else.

If your on the move or in partly rocky terrain it can be easier to use 2 or 3 stakes and just sit behind it to one side. But deer circle you best to be in a 360 blind

I’ll never forget this time I was sneaking up on a narrow cut out through some thick brush hoping to shoot some ducks off a slough. As I’m approaching anticipating ducks to fly I hear a DEEP grunt just like the one on video no more than 10 feet to my right. I swung my gun over and about a 200 pound sow comes barreling out from a briar clump and I dump all three shots of steel load in her and my buddy runs around and cuts her off putting two more shots in to her making her run back at me and I follow up with another two shots. Had to finish her with a 9mm round to the skull. Talk about ADRENALINE RUSH

Awesome video Justin!! There ain’t no freaking way you would catch me out hunting pigs on the ground for sure!!! If there was just one bore pig it’s over if he gets ahold of you for sure!!! If you haven’t ever seen what one can do I definitely suggest checking out what a bore pig can do for damage!! I have a buddy that goes down to Texas probably at least 2 to 3 times every year and hunts pigs with dogs and he says that if he doesn’t have at least 6 dogs to go he said you wouldn’t catch him hunting pigs!! He’s been out where he got on some pigs and the dogs had them cornered and the pig ended up killing a couple of his dogs and got away still!!! They are definitely something you don’t want to mess with and definitely don’t underestimate the damage that they can do!!! Well Justin remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!!

Take an AR (a .308 is better), supressor, thermal scope and a few magazines of subsonic rounds and clear the hogs out. Otherwise you'll have hogs and no deer. Hunting feral hogs is more about extermination rather than sport. If you insist on bow hunting them on the ground get a .45 or .357 rather than a nice light. I never found a scent killer product that worked as well as woodsmoke and/or creek mud.
