Stalking Wild Pigs in Texas Brush!

Pig hunting in the thick Texas brush for wild pigs with a rifle. I came across a whole heard of wild pigs including some big boar hogs and I try to take them all out by spot and stalking on the ground.

Boars when wounded release harmones that make the meat INCREDIBLY tough and distasteful you need to get an instantaneous kill...brain pan shot, which is incredibly hard to do. Manny pepole run dogs for hogs and cut the nutts off the boars and release them to shoot later. Once thier nutts are cut they don't release the harmones nearly as bad. You want a hog to shoot and eat a sow or piglet is best. A sow for a crue shaw delay, ( probably spelt that wrong but its cajun for "pig in the ground "). The pigglets, 40 pounder or so are great to throw on the pit whole.

Seeing this just pumps me up, last year my buddy met some guys through church that are from Texas and have a bunch of land down there and they came up here to hunt Whitetail and showed them around and they invited us to come down this year to do some hog hunting and never hunting anything besides here in Ohio, I've never even seen a hog some I'm jacked to go 😂😂

That’s kool. Years back (I live in Tx) a guy came down to visit his Marine son. He came all the way from New York. He had never seen a hog in his life. I put him behind a night vision scope and found a hog. Said alright dude there he is. Up to you now. He killed first hog he ever saw. I guided the hunt. I think I got as much thrill as he did. Gave me a rush to make that experience happen for him. Meant way more to me than pulling trigger myself.

Nice hog. Let me share some info with you. A hog can see 100 yards. Hogs are 'red' color blind. If you look at a light wave length chart, they can detect the colors starting with blue down thru yellows. There's debate as to whether they see 'red' as a hue of yellow or a grey color; but, they can see it. Just not as 'red.' A blue shirt or blue jeans qill alert a hog. Stay with wearing colors that are in the environment and you stalks will be better over time.

A gentleman in SC uses I think 92gr Controlled Chaos in 223. Puts about an 1in hole in them I would probably would use a 6.8 spc 110 or 120gr for pigs. Still amazing video

Two things to help control your hog population. First, close your feeder pens and stop giving them easy access to food. Second, always make young sows your primary targets. When you get rid of an old boar, you get rid of one hog. When you get rid of a young sow, you get rid of her plus the 100+ piglets she will give birth to over her lifetime.

We have land on the Colorado River near Colorado Bend State Park. There is a mountain lion roaming the area. Haven’t caught many bass but there’s plenty of big catfish.

Those hogs especially in a pack are scary and unpredictable. My step-dad’s entire family is from Guthrie and all the family in some way worked for either the 6666 or Pitchfork. Grew up driving the dirt backroads all over the place down there before I had a license. Just a fun place to get to go for family reunions and kinda be let loose to enjoy nature. This was after being taught the do’s and don’t for years. At one reunion several of us wanted to go do some cleaning and flower placing at the cemetery which is on donated land by the 6666. If you like brushy country like you were in you’d like this. You have to cross numerous cattle guards and actually drive across a south fork of the Brazos River to get to the cemetery. Cattle are everywhere and know they have the right of way. Hogs are too but the ranch and cowboys try to keep them down. I had bulls determined to fight my truck and been surrounded by hogs with huge tusks puncture the sheet metal on a pickup. We were sure we were going over as everyone scrambled for a gun while this idiot boar was trying to pull his tusks out of the metal rocking that truck! Naturally, we had cousins in the back. Part of what kids do especially then. Finally one got a great shot when the boar stopped a second to get his breath. This was before cell phones and a couple hours before sunset. We waited till it cooled off cause on that hill doing physical work is hard. We looked like a bunch of idiots trying to lift that dang boar to get his tusks out of the metal. Finally did and left two guards and went to get help to lift it. In the dark by spotlight we got our boar and donated it to a needy family. That part felt great. So many people have no idea the damage those pigs can do to land and crops plus they are dangerous to humans and animals. Glad to see another one bites the dust especially a boar! Haven’t been over here for awhile. Glad it popped up and wonderful to see you doing so well!!
