Amen! I have a 81 Johnson 60hp that I’m getting ready to put on my bass boat. Your videos are entertaining and informative! Although we may have different issues with our motors, your troubleshooting is the best!

OMC has complete maintenance schedules on every of their engines which deal with every use-affected item. Why is it that most of us ( me included) ignore them or think we can sqeeze yet another season or two out of every component until it eventually breacks down ? Looking forward to delving in your detailed try & miss repair saga, LOL !

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I've never done one before- they were always done when I got the motors but it looks pretty simple- I've also heard that the VRO pump makes a pretty good fuel pump too- just pull the pump and replace with a regular style pump but you'll have to find a way to mount it- check this guy out- kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKnUYX2jhr9or5o here's the pump you'll need- www.amazon.com/Evinrude-Johnson-Replacement-Equipped-Models/dp/B07BC3QMKT

How does the pump work if you cover up the pulse port?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 29 күн бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. All pumps are not created equal. That pump has fuel in line- fuel out line- pulse port and vacuum line. So it can be used either way but one vacuum line needs to be blocked depending how you use it. Some pumps have a closed pulse port and only a vacuum line so that type won't need to be blocked.
@randolphbehm877
@randolphbehm877 29 күн бұрын
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 so it’s vacuum actuated? That makes sense. I couldn’t see where the vacuum hose connected. Thanks for the content and the comeback!!

I've got a 1968 (I think) 15hp Evinrude. It has a high speed adjustment needle in the carburetor. I can't find a single video on youtube how to adjust that. I read somewhere to start 1 turn out and then adjusting it 1/8 turn in, until the engine starts to die out. Then about 1/4 back out and somewhere there is the sweet spot. Is this correct? About to take the motor out on water and it would be useful to know what I'm doing.

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. They didn't make a 15 horse in 68. Isn't there an ID plate on the transom mount. Does it look like this 18 hp. kzbin.info/www/bejne/an_ShoGVfrh3r6s. Anyway, The slow speed idle screw is at the top of the carb, the high speed WOT screw is at the bottom coming from the carb bowl. Set the ss screw 1.5 turns out from seated, start the motor and let it warm up real good. After it's warmed up start the 1/8 turns in, waiting a minute between each turn. What your looking for is a "lean sneeze" or hiccup sound, that's where it's just starting to die. Then turn it back to the 1/4 turn and yes somewhere around this point you should find the sweet spot for best idle. Not to lean/fast and not to rich/slow. The high speed, bottom screw adjustment is done on the boat at wide open throttle. Set the screw in the middle somewhere with the linkage it's connected to. You may also have to adjust it some to get the smoothest idle too, some of these carbs are very "touchy". Slowly turn the screw in and out in very small increments until you find the highest wot speed while in the boat at full throttle. Turn the locknuts on the needles/screws just snug to hold in place so they don't vibrate and loosen up, just snug enough so you can still adjust them. Here's a link to a good site that may also help you out. www.leeroysramblings.com. You need to find out what year/model the motor is in case you need parts. Shoot a video and put it on your page, I'll take a look at it. LMK. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 thank you for your response! So this motor is made in Belgium. And I think it was sold only in Europe. It has a serial number plate with a code 15802MBxxxx. What I was able to find online, it is indeed a 1968 15hp motor. Sure is one weird motor to find parts! My guess is it was sold here in Finland back then. I have two 18hp Evinrude fastwin motors from the 60's laying around, it is somewhat similar, but there are some differences. Tha carburetor is different (I've never actually seen one with high speed adjustment before). This 15hp doesn't have a thermostat, the top cover is different and shutdown button is located on the side. Some parts are of course interchangeable across different models. I changed ignition coils and lower unit from a 1972 20hp spare parts Johnson. I did a thorough clean of the carburetor and disassembled pretty much everything, including the high speed adjustment screw. It was about 1 turn out from seated, so I put it back 1 turn out. I guess that is a good starting point. Why on earth is it nessecary to adjust fuel flow to the main jet? I guess it is easier to adjust WOT in different altitudes and weather temperatures 🤔

@@ipp3l1 hey. Yeah when I looked on marineengine.com they didn't show anything for a 68 15hp. but I did find a manual for one on ebay australia. The model number is WH-14M. see chart. www.maxrules.com/models/OMC_models_files/JOthru79/22-69.html. New parts may be hard to find here in the states and some 18 horse parts are interchangeable. There may be stuff on ebay from time to time also. it was called, the workhorse or worktwin.

Hey, been watching your videos for awhile now, just wanted to thank you for your efforts and info provided. Your show is better than most reality tv currently available lol. Your videos have given me much valuable info and also gave me the confidence to start my own projects, like the ole transom. I'm the proud owner of a 1976 aluminum 16ft Starcraft. It came with 2, barely used 73ish 65hp Johnson hydro mechanicals, one actually runs well and the other is for parts with good powerhead and the lower unit slips when under load. These things are so dang heavy lol have to wonder if id be better of with my 40hp lol. Did that 60 or 70hp seem too much for your Starcraft?

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I really appreciate it. Hell No I Luv It! Hahaha. 92 60hp with 92 70hp carbs! She Rips and cruise's real nice! I kept my Starcraft as light as I could. That 55 was nice too and the 40 did well also. You could beef your 40 up, bigger carbs/jets, performance intake, it would rip! But you might like that 65 better! Let me know if you post any videos. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 good evening.. thanks for replying.. lol. Well I just recently purchased a nice boat with a llate model Johnson. Previous owner was aging out of boat ownership and had run the boat only a few times in the last several years.. anyway got a steal deal on the boat.. great condition , clean but had been sitting in a garage.. I went for water test and motor will spin flywheel but won’t turn over.. I put new plugs in.. same thing.. should I start breaking down the carbs.. original plugs where “oil fouled.”

I just click on video then start the show if I don't like the quality I hit my u-tube settings icon in upper right hand corner of screen then choose advanced screen. Now you can choose to watch at whatever speed you like 144p 240p 360p all the way up to 1040p then you can also choose to play the video faster in those settings. So basically creator can upload at 144p & then on my end I can change it in MY settings to have a clearer image plus play vidya even faster. Wow! I thought by now we all knew how to use our OWN settings on our phones and computers but NOPE some are still stuck in the stone ages😂
@TerrificFlow
@TerrificFlow Жыл бұрын
@@jimmyhoffa7935 I don't know what kind of phone you got, but if the video is published in 144p resolution by the youtuber, there's no button to magically make it 1080 😂😂 In this case, the resolution is fine. It's the frame per second that's too low, at only 10 compared to 24fps for normal footage. I ended up watching it at 1.5x speed because it was hard to watch at normal speed with the low frame per second. I enjoy watching him tinker on an engine at normal speed, hence my comment. I'm sure it's a setting on his camera, or editing software. Or youtube publishing page.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Жыл бұрын
@@jimmyhoffa7935 That doesn't work. You can slow it down or speed it up but it's still 10fps. 10 frames per second is 10 frames per second period. You cant change that. Wow thought everybody knew that! Hahaha but I appreciate your input. If you have time, right click on the video, a drop down menu will show, at the bottom of the menu it says, "Stats for Nerds", click on that and let me know what the fps shows @. Thanks !
