Wish this help had been available when I was in the Police force over 40 years ago. I had three years of mental torture and against my better judgement resigned. Something I will always regret

That was very enlightening and respectful. Also, I never heard it called stammering. In my country (USA) we call it studdering. I was in the airborne infantry in Vietnam and my plt. sgt.,who was also a jumpmaster, studdered and never studdered when giving jump commands on a jump or orders in combat.

It is stuttering not studdering

Liam Mullins' comment, and those who appear to "like" it, provides a useful insight into how the social stigma of stammering (and actually disability more widely) works. It is still the case that Liam's laugh-a-minute, pub stand-up attitude to this condition is socially acceptable, and in some circles it is actively encouraged. Which of course represents much of the daily burden of having a stammer. So thank you, Liam, for this valuable insight; I'm so glad you enjoyed the documentary.
