In this clip, Director Roger Ross Williams, Mara Brock Akil and Dr. Ibram X. Kendi discuss the origins of "Stamped from the Beginning". "Stamped from the Beginning" is a transformative love letter to all black people. The contributors to the film were all black women academics. Mara Brock Akil talks about acknowledging and understanding racism. She also mentions that it's important to her what we put in the world and that she was very happy to be apart of the process. Dr. Ibram X. Kendi discusses Thomas "contradiction" Jefferson and his many contradictions. Mara Brock Akil talks about her Phillis Wheatley moment and hopes that the film deepens black people love for one another.
