Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful footage, brings me back... I've been there 3 times but not nearly enough yet. Not only is Stan Hywet a gorgeous American castle (would love to do the "Nooks & Crannies" tour mentioned here in comments), this masterpiece and the gate lodge hold extra significance for millions in Recovery. God is so good. 👍

I was a tour guide at Stan Hywet Hall. Loved my job!

I've been there a handful of times and always hoped for an enthusiastic tour guide that loved to tell the obscure stories about the mansion. The story of the music room rug, the oil lamps being sent, and the ship carrying the rug being sunk and the retrieval of the rug are just one of many stories that get overlooked. I'm sure you are a treasure trove of history that I'd live to hear!

I remember visiting this mansion in the 7th grade in 1970. I remember the secret escape passage, the gardens, the pool, the master bath, and the drawings that the kids made during the war on the top of the wall near the ceiling. Helen Keller visited here and you can see her signature in the book at the mansion.

I visited in 1971 and again in 2018. I remembered those drawings and high in the son's rooms their counting on the wall of Japan ships or planes destroyed. I noticed when I returned these charts had been painted over. The paint was whiter and fresher than the rest. The docent had only been there for 10 years and didn't know that story. I was lucky enough to see the downstairs where the laundry room, canning kitchen, wine cellar, old exercise room, etc.were located. For all Downton Abbey fans who will never make it to the UK, this is a way of visiting the Manor experience. Some of the rooms were actually purchased from the old UK Manors when they were going to b destroyed and brought to America.

This video is awesome, but if you haven't been to stan hywet, you must go. the video cannot do it justice because there are so many intricacies that you need to be up close to see. If you can, go during Christmastime. I went today and it was absolutely gorgeous. I want to do the nooks and crannies tour next! Amazing home, hard to believe people actually lived here.
