Remarkable doc of jazz history told humbly in real time. Beautiful, generous, talented - an American Renaissance cat.

I listened to Stan's concepts and ideals, doing cruises to the Mediterranean Sea. He was one of many drummers, whose ideals and concepts, that I Incorporated into my own playing years later. Peace Stan😔

Fantastic .. Ive seen most , if not all the Docs. on Jazz and Roots music.. I had the good fortune to see some of these Gianys , meet them and play alongside for a gig or 2.. There will never ever be another ERa like the Be-bop , Big Band , cool or however its labeled ..its just great music ..as Miles would say.. thanks for sharing..

I used to participate on the All About Jazz forum til they shut it down some years back and used to love to hear stories about The Lighthouse from one of the other members there who was a regular at The Lighthouse back in it's heyday. Her name was Saundra or Sandra. Anybody remember her?

loved him on the kenton band new concepts but id stay pretty far from calling him the original bop drummer esp when in this era we had blakey roach etc etc that where ALL before stan not to mention the lew tabakin drummer mel lewis which was approx the same time as stan give or take..like i say i loved him but wouldnt say he in any way invented the style nor did he much improve on it though he played it quite well my 02 on it for what little that w buy any of us now anyway
