If you don’t understand why you should tip the takeout workers at restaurants or coffee shop type deals just consider all the prep work and clean up they do outside of preping your order, it’s similar work as the servers working tables or bartenders working the bar

Quick info for those who want to tip from a long time service employee: 1. Coffee/ sandwich shop $1-2 2. Dine in restaurant: 20-25% minimum 3. Pizza/ Gig delivery: Minimum $4. After $20, %15 minimum. Large orders $1-2 per pizza 4. Haircut: Variable, Minimum $10. %20+ if they are your regular stylist. 5. Valet: $5-$10 depending on the value of the vehicle 6. Grocery Delivery: %10 of bill.

I tipped 18% back when 15 was the standard and now that 20% is the low and EVERY service wants a tip you might get 15 and baristas get nothing unless I really like you. Charge more for your coffee! I do feel bad the baristas are caught in the middle, but this is ridiculous and I'm not here to subsidize your workforce.

7:40 You start at 20%, it will never drop below 10% unless it is so bad I have to say something to someone. It can go up as well. I've tipped 50% before for an awesome server. I don't think I have ever done 100% unless it is like 2 bucks for a cup of coffee.

I worked at a private golf club in Montecito, CA, and it was a non tipping club. Members knew they didn't have to tip the staff because there was an added member charge with everything transaction similar to what I would call a VAT. The stresslessness we all felt in knowing we had a decent wage well above the minimum. Created an environment of consistency in the members' experience. We have to change this dynamic of placing all the responsibility on the consumer to offset wages for these business owners via tips. In the same way, we have to stop voting to subsidize these billionaires stadiums with the threat of moving our beloved sports teams to a city that will pay them. Venture capitalists and business owners are propped up enough they shouldn't also be relying on the public to foot their business expenses.

Tipping at restaurants I don't mind because unfortunately they work in a industry where tips are the majority of their salary. Tipping at fast food joints makes no sense because while I believe a lot of them are underpaid it's also easier for those folks to unionize, form a union and fight for a living wage.

May I volunteer my next serving shift to you? 😂 In my almost two decades in the service industry, most cooks and Chefs will say they prefer being in the kitchen and not dealing with customers. Or they just don't possess the qualifications to be front of house. But "I do believe" if you don't like working in the kitchen, tell your manager you'd like to apply for a server position the next time it's available.

Yeah there's those guest that are difficult but I never had a guest throw stuff at me for taking to long on a refire. Sure most of the BOH say they don't want to work out front until they do and their like, this $hits cake. Is your job easy no way. It can be a real struggle at times. The last thing I'll say is when you're serving you get to interact with some really great people, have a laugh, enlighten their birthday or anniversary experience. Meanwhile I'm in the back, soaked with sweat, burning hands, fingers, arms, prepping on the fly, barried in tickets because the whole restaurant was sat at once by the 17 year old host who's been working there 3 days, and zero positive feedback besides "you guys did good tonight". All that being said, servers make way more money on average, at least at the places Ive worked at.
