I just heard this for the first time and you had me ugly crying the entire waiata. Te haerenga ki ngā Reo i tīmata ki au i Maramatoru. I just wanted you to know that i heard it at a time I'm struggling in my haerenga & hearing this is exactly what i needed in this moment. Te ataahua ki ngā kupu. He taonga ki tō Waiata koe.

Kia ora to those in Aotearoa, aroha from the hills of West Virginia, USA. I’ve been attempting to learn Te Reo Maori…. I can halfway pronounce some words ( and I immensely apologize if I have misspelled or misused any words, it’s a difficult language to learn as an English speaker). The language just resonates on a level that I can not explain. I am fascinated and deeply respectfully to the culture. Some people say they were born in the wrong era, I believe I was born on the wrong continent. Aroha to Aotearoa.

Kia Ora, Nga mihi for your kind words but I just wanted to tell you, it’s possible to become Maori besides being born into it 😊 Māori is a way of life & it’s own world view. The language is so distinct & rare, I think it stirs something deeply primal to Pakeha’s Wairua. (Non Māori’s spirit) You’re doing so well! Keep it up 🔥 Pro tip is; our vowels are pronounced differently to how English is pronounced. Please don’t be offended but I taught my son those vowel sounds via Takaro Tribe on YT. It’s a Māori kids show but super insightful 🫶🏽 my nan was a kohanga reo teacher who helped revive the Reo through children. They based a lot of current curriculum from hers & others works. Also Gisborne’s mayor is of Asian descent & speaks fluently haha! It makes me proud to be Māori 💯 Haere Mai x

Oh #StanWalker this song just, another meaning to it, in someway... my other best friend is leaving to Melbourne this week, and the part that you sing "He mōrehau ahau" is based on her also, just going down there, she'll be that way because she'll be somewhere new, and she'll have to be a worrier, a survivor, she'll have to survive without her family at the moment but take a break to get her self sorted out first before they follow her at some stage 4-6weeks depending on how they get their house sold etc etc...

Stan you have truly been an inspiration for me whilst I was healing and re-learning to love myself again. You are a beautiful reflection of God children, and your gift to sing songs so soulful and from the heart naturally cannot be practiced it is a God given talent, that can only be comprehended by believers of our faith. Keep up the good mahi, your intentional, directive and purpose driven. It worked for me. Mauriora Che che che

Awwh I love how he sings in his native language! Just take the song up a beat, just wow!! I love Māori language, Mayb because of u @Stan Walker, but u're just amazing at singing in it!! And I'm getting the tattoo where u say "He morehu ahau" so it mean's " I'm worrier, survivor.? Just double checking 😁 I can't wait to get it, but I have to finish my radiation and chemo, first, before I may get to get it! It's 6weeks or bit longer, depending on the scan.. I hope I can!! ❤️🙌🏻🤜🏻
