Energetic reaction 👍 Stan is brilliant. He is a shining example of a time when as ppl (especially indigenous ppl) can breath new life, creativity and expression into celebrating their origins and cultures. Be able to tell their stories and express themselves without stigma anymore. Exciting times and connecting via social media being that bridge. Few notes though... 2:36 (a) Can't compare what's going on in America right now with the Maori ppl. The closest thing America can compare to what happened to the Maori is the degradation and displacement of the Native American populations for generations and still to this day ignored. The context here is the abuse of the rights of "first peoples" human, legal and politically. To not forget and stay strong by always remembering and keep telling their stories old and new. (b) most news in other developed countries are likely more reliable than "some" American outlets. Down here in New Zealand and Australia, we are not like America yet. I don't know about NZ but in Australia we struggle to rise above and be better than the angertainment generated by the Murdoch media giant that messed up America. They own 70% of Australian newspapers! The Australian government wasn't careful. You might be surprised how much media they own in the US as well. They're just interested in the money they can make from causing emotional alarm regardless of the harm is creates. Laughing all the way to the bank. If Americans are feeling angry and anxious all the time maybe it's time they "expand" their media exposure to get a sense of equilibrium and positivity again ❤ Reacting to content from the world is good for that too 👍 keep it up.😀

As an American I 100% agree with the change in the quality of our news outlets. It is no longer a matter of reporting facts but rather they broadcast opinions. Fox News, several radio personalities, news publications have screwed our country royally!

No worries about mispronouncing the title, at least you gave it a go. The Maori language has different pronunciation of the written text, and it is hard for those who don't know. This is a very powerful song, that is also a protest song at our local government, not just with what is going on overseas. That big guy in the video, with the Ta Moko (traditional tattoos) is Tame Iti (pronounced Tama eetee), a local political activist. Back in 2007, his tribe, the Ngāi Tūhoe (pronounced roughly Nai Ta-who or Tu-Hoe) was illegally raided in an event called the Urewera Raids. There was claims that the villages were really "terrorist training camps". You can look up news stories about it. There is a dramatised movie in 2022 called Muru, starring Cliff Curtis. There are some historical discrepancies, but it is a good depiction of what was happening. Last year was voted in one of the most right-wing governments we've had for a long time. for example, they are trying to pass a law to prevent gangs from having their patches and gang tattoos visible when out in public. They want them to wear foundation makeup to cover up the ink. Also next year, they want to cut the Free School Lunch program, because they call it a "waste of money". But there are literally hundreds of families on the poverty line, with healthy food being priced out of reach, fuel, rental and other expenses ever increasing, and many of the children from these families only having one meal a day, if that. The Maori people were traditionally tribal warriors (as described in the movie Once Were Warriors), and, if pushed the wrong way, can easily revert to the warrior ways. This government is also trying to rewrite the Treaty of Waitangi, our nations' founding document, because in their eyes, the Maori people have too much power. They are also trying to limit the use of the Te Reo Maori language, because they don't think people from elsewhere in the world would appreciate, or understand the language, and basically want to kill it off. I appreciate that you appreciate use of the Maori language. Even though I am a Pakeha, a white person, I do appreciate the native language and culture.
