overTIMe I guess Stan has one of the best inside out backhands ever, not to mention the power he gets from the backhand side and now they've done some adjustment on his forehand he's really dangerous,you can still see his nerves at times but I was proud that he overcame them in this match. Congrats to Stan for stepping up and taking the match from Novak!

Heisenberg 992 Stan had a terrible record against all the big 3 guys because he used to be a headcase but turned it in around slowly in a few matches against each of them either by winning or making the matches much more competitive(yes still lopsided h2h)_..He came very close against Nadal in the WTF right before the Aus Open win and was blasting away during the first set where Nadal seemed to be moving well..Cannot simply call that 'lucky'..Stan has the game to win against anyone on slower courts and demonstrated again against Nadal in Rome as well..Federer himself was a lower level headcase and had a 2-7 record against hewitt at one stage..Eventually he made improvements in all departments especially the mental one and now the h2h stands at 18-9 in Federer's favour..Players can improve dramatically especially if they have the potential to unleash a lot of power like Wawrinka
@banfasso3109

+Heisenberg 992 Rafa wasn't injured. Stan pounded winners down his throat until Rafa lost his head and psychosomatically created discomfort in himself. It's a defence mechanism insecure people produce when they're riding a superiority complex involving an opponent they believe is inferior but they happen to be losing to. Serena's the king of it.

Yeh, I am a huge Novak fan and I was happy for Stan Wawrinka because his game was exceptional. There was nothing that Novak did that was wrong in that game, but Wawrinka's attacking game that day was insane. Djokovic would have beaten anyone else other than Wawrinka. There was no way anyone would be able to beat that 2015 RG Stan, period. I just wish Wawrinka would always play that kind of attacking legendary tennis and not show up as Stan the Man once every blue moon. It's sad that this incredible tennis like Stan was so inconsistent. Had he been as consistent as the Big 3, imagine the heights of greatness Wawrinka would have reached. Great loss for tennis.

Incredible tennis from Wawrinka in the final. This win was very big for Federer. Now his 17 grand slams record will be harder for Nadal to break (hard to see him winning any other slam this year), plus Djokovic will have a lot of catching up to still get near the top boys. It also cements Stan as not a one slam wonder

***** A superior head to head record doesn't necessarily make him the better player but this is a debate that's best avoided. If Federer wasn't so obstinate in his game, he might not have lost to him quite so often... at least on hard courts! Good arguments can be made for both regardless.
@crocr
@crocr 9 жыл бұрын
***** in my opinion if Rodger and Rafa were born in the same year then Rafa would win ht early head to head but as Rafa starts to decline Rodger would start to reverse the head to head. Rafa's decline is more steep than Federers due to his play style. Federer gradually declined from 2010 onwards but the steep decline was noticeable in 2013. Rafa is already Rodgers age in 2010 and his decline has been way worse in what is a weaker era at the moment because we have no elite players born in the 1990s to break through thus far. Also we must take into account the clay skew that Nadal has over his rivals including Djokovic. I think Nadal is the best big match player but Its hard to call him a goat because of his terrible consistency getting knocked out early in slams such as Wimbledon and Australian Open. He is the clay goat no doubt though. Nadal 2008 on clay would beat any current djokovic on clay.

Top Tennis Training - #1 in Online Tennis Yes as a Fed fan this was my first thought as well. The longer these other guys can prevent Djko/Nadal from winning slams the better. Another match that underlines Wawrinka is the best player around - if he´s got the mental strength to play his best tennis. Towards the end of the fourth set Djokovic had no idea what to do against Stanimal. If Stan played like this in every match, who would be able to stop him? Hitting 60 winners against Djokovic - that´s almost as much as two players combined play in most five setters nowadays. Exciting match, Wawrinkas performance made my jaw drop.

+nphung01 well wawrinka is perfect in GS finals. 2-2 and Murray's below 50% (obviously). so statically stan is better. but those are just numbers. like trying to argue fed is all around better than Nadal because of slams, and trying to argue nadal is better than fed just because of head to head.

What a silly statistic! Andy Murray has been in more slam finals so that means he's had a better career vs Stan only being in 2. Stan underachieved until the last 2 years for his talent he should have more more!

Fearless and ferocious. It was just absolute beast mode throughout the match from Stan the Man. Unreal and ridiculous. There's no way in hell he isn't winning more slams if he continues to play like this. Quite simply, just too damn good on the day. Commiserations to Novak, but he is definitely getting closer. Along with beating Rafa for the first time here, this final was another step in the right direction for him. Better luck next year. He's definitely good enough to win it.

Woah, did not see this coming, now I'm regretting that I missed this match damn! At any rate, wow, amazing Stan today, he's proven again and again that when Stanimal shows up on court, not even the best player in the world can beat him. Shame this Stan doesn't show up as consistently as he could. However, Stan has definitely proven that his first GS was no fluke and has gotten out of the one-slam wonder group (who would've thought huh?). Congrats to Novak too. I feel that this loss will always go down as one of the toughest losses in his career. He's come so close to winning many times but the only problem was Nadal. Now that he managed to overcome the biggest hurdle, who would've thought he'd fell short against Stan, the man no one even thought could challenge for the title given his inconsistent form. Looking at Novak's face, I know he still has the believe that he can eventually win his first FO (and I hope he will). After all, he did something no one else could (except Soderling) which was to defeat Nadal at RG (in straight sets no less). Best of luck to both players. Also, am I the only one amazed at the fact that Stan has managed to win at least one slam for two years running? An amazing feat indeed. He definitely deserves the ranking boost.

This is so funny to see. Novak is accustomed to nonchalantly break down players mentally with his patient consistent base line hitting. But Novak got a taste of his own medicine and got to see how it feels of what he does best to others. This is such a classic grand slam! Stan wins 3 straight sets after being down one. Just imagine how Novak felt after winning the first set? He was pretty “sure” he’d take it. Novak is the master of losing the 1st set then coming back to finish you as if it’s some cruel joke? And Novak sees it done to him as he’s done others! The irony of this is just so hilarious to me.

WTF are you talking about... What a moronic comment about the arguably best player in the history of tennis.... Take your fragile mental issues with him somewhere else.. Stan played amazing, plain and simple
@Antraxx997
@Antraxx997 Жыл бұрын
exactly, Djokovic even fake being exhausted or even injured, he always plays a psychological game when he knows that the opponent at his best can beat him, so he do everything he can to destabilize and lowering the quality of the game.. and when it's done he just play his best to break the opponent. Not everybody can do that like Djoko but Stan is very smart and too strong for Djoko this day.

You can't say somebody is or is not the best player after a single victory. Stan was amazing, again, which is good for tennis world generally. And he is such a nice persona to watch while playing. His mental is strong, his backhand is unbelievable and his pants are funny. Nole has to learn his own lesson, to be careful not just against those two who are considered buy analysts as being amongst the best in history of tennis but watch the others too, as Andy and Stan. Doesn't matter who's fan you are, this match was surprisingly nice to watch! Then again, who is the best doesn't matter, because the best at Roland Garros this year is Stan Wawrinka.
