I've known plenty of family owned businesses that have done plenty of exploitation. Hiring workers isn't hard, but the cost in training them with benefits could have been the reason why he only wanted a "family business" in the first place. If he had half a brain he would know, especially the type of environment they resided, that she's more likely to get pregnant with a gangster baby daddy than with a classmate in college. Tell me I'm wrong, because I know I'm not, coming from someone who used education to escape the ghetto. Anna would have committed slow suicide because of her father.
@wellwhatdoyoumean8372 Жыл бұрын
@@nerdygamerguy8378 No, you aren't wrong. However, with Anita being in that environment it would have been more than likely that she would've succumbed to it and perhaps had more of a miserable life with said gangster/cholo baby daddy than committing suicide; she would've just dealt with it as best as she could and possibly or more importantly taken care of her child. even if she was all alone in doing it herself.

I can understand her father's attitude. He struggled to get to where he is at and wants to maintain his level of success so him and his family can live comfortably and safe. The restaurant industry is a very difficult business to be in. However,he should have realized that his daughter can achieve great success by becoming a physician. Not only would she be able to help her family but she could help her community.

true, at that time, nobody in Southwest Hispanic culture taught the older immigrant fathers about the money that a medical degree brings. It just looked like a risk and a disrespect: when the fathers heard about their kid pursuing a degree, they really heard , “your business is so bad that it’s worth it for your daughter to leave it , then risk it in some totally different profession that you don’t even know.”

"your husband comes into my restaurant, eats, and then he insults me." you have to admit it here; Escalante could've asked Anita to ask her parents if he could make a visit to their home and respectfully express his concerns about her continuing her education. Or, he could've made a phone call to their home and respectfully informed them about how she needs to stay in school and go to college. Instead, he did in fact come into her Father's restaurant and disrespect him with indicating that "...she'll waste her life away in a restaurant." He shouldn't have done that in the first place. Just because her father and family owned and operated a restaurant, it didn't give him the right to insult the father with that remark and give the insinuation that he's a failure.

Putting hot chilies in the dip to sell extra beer? Not dishonest, or to be looked down upon. That's called a marketing strategy. Pubs did that in the 19th century, and early 20th century, offered a free lunch, with salty foods. End result was thirsty customers, equals more beer selling.

did less than 5 minutes of searching, they were at her home for a wellness check due to her mental illness. When the police arrived her home was in disarray, and they were going to help her due to a seizure that appeared to be going on, she then pulled a gun (turned out later to be a bb gun, however you can't know in the moment and from the bodycam footage, its not obvious its a bb gun.), still a tragic thing to happen, but to call this police brutality is absurd. It was not “police brutality” you ignorant fool. Vanessa was neglected by her family and left to rot. Her health and psyche were depleting. She drew what appeared to be a fire arm when officers went to check on her, it was later determined to be a BB.
