I was not very smart as a kid . I failed in entrace exam to the top tier elementary school . My mom who has a degree in PhD in chemistry went to the headmaster and offered to teach high school class in chemistry . She quitted her job at the university to come to teach high school kids. Of course I got accepted to the elementary school because of her . She taught for only 2 years but her class got very high score in the national test and many got accepted to very good university . Later on I ask her why she can teach better . She told me that most of the chemistry teacher lack of the deep understanding of the subject . They just ask the kid to memorize everything and do not understand anything.

Great inspiring movie and real life story. What I think is most unexpected, is the fact that this teacher (Jaime Escalante), demonstrated decades ago that the most crucial piece in the educational system is the teacher itself. I mean, he alone inspired and properly educated generations of succesful students in the SAME conditions other teachers failed. He had a real impact, and that alone is being studied today by the Australina professor John Hattie and his discoveries on visible learning wich demostrate that most students all over the world respond and perform consistently acording to the teacher, his methods and feedback rather than the enviroment, the curricula, the hours, etc. Revolutionary findings to say the least. Good luck.

But many lose the vigor and wish to teach because of the students, especially professors in the high schools, they have the toughest job as teachers. He knew how to prepare, and seeing him break down math into understandable formats was awe-inspiring. He sometimes relieved teachers and taught the lower-grade classes and he was God at teaching concepts to struggling kids. My school was full of professors who similarly went off and earned gargantuan salaries as Chemists at Milk Industries, or mathematicians at Business firms but decided willingly to teach high school students. My school was a mid-end school, not as low as the movie, but they had options on their tables if they wanted to leave my school.
