Maritime English | SMCP
IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases.
The IMO SMCP includes phrases which have been developed to cover the most important safety-related fields of verbal shore-to-ship (and vice-versa), ship-to-ship and on-board communications. The aim is to get round the problem of language barriers at sea and avoid misunderstandings which can cause accidents.

You showed something looking like the bridge of Queen Mary when talking about 2 engines/props maneuvering but that ship actually have 4 props meaning “All” and not “Both” should be used when giving command or have I missed something?

Thanks for the interesting question. For some reason the SMCP doesn't say anything about 4 props ships. Probably the use of "All" is indeed more appropriate in this case. It is probably possible to use "Both" for such ships, indicating one side, like "Full ahead both port"

I have heard the term "Port group" and" Starboard group" to refer to the two port and starboard engines as a pair. @@mymaritimeenglish

Different RPM (revolutions per minute) of a ship propeller. Dead slow is usually the minimum when ship still can be normally steered.
