NAVHDA Natural Ability Test - Field Phase

I did my first ever NAHVDA evaluation last September with my then 6-month-old GSP puppy. As someone who is new to gundog training, it was a great experience. We even managed to score a prize I with 112/112!

You are lucky to have birds that hold point that close. This never happens hunting ruffed grouse here in northern MN. It would be nice to have birds like this for training purposes for my shorthair and wirehair. Another good and interesting video, thanks.

For the tests and training pen raised birds are used so they do usually hold tighter and don't run or fly off before the dogs have an opportunity to point them. Glad you enjoyed the video!

I can't wait to see the next one. I've always wondered about the test and how they were performed. I guess you have to realize it is a pup when they go off chasing a bird. I wondered if that was part of the scoring when it is difficult to have the pup recall back to you or if that can be expected at their hyper young age.

Would this pup be marked down on her cooperation score at all for not returning to handler on chased birds?
