Thank you Lord Jesus for this foretaste of your Glory and your Kingdom through the voices of your saints. The emotion of this great singer's heart is Joy for there is none in human form who cannot be overcome by the presence of the Holy Spirit - it overwhelms every sense we are given. One day, when the New Jerusalem appears, God's Glory will be so great that it will transform us in an instant. Glory to God. Thank you dear Brothers and Sisters for bringing us closer to our Lord through your music. Glory to God.

I never tire of this magnificent, sublime, inspired performance and its fully committed, thoroughly invested spirituality. It evokes timelessly uplifting memories of hearing this classic gem since childhood. The Scriptural reference alone is absolutely powerful and the lyrics -- melded with the soaringly compelling and sweeping melody, arrangement, and orchestration -- are irresistibly and understandably moving.

Every Christmas when I was young, "The Holy City" was performed as a piano/organ duet in our ward. My mother loved this song. While at BYU, I found a piano rendition and learned to play it. Every time I went home to visit my mom, she would lead me to the piano to play it for her. Mom has been gone for 14 years now and whenever I hear this song I think of her. This performance is magnificent!!! I had goosebumps throughout it. Even Mr. Olsen became emotional during his performance.

I added a comment but it seems to have vanished. I've loved this song since I first heard as a small child. . I didn't understand it, but I loved the parts about the children singing. It takes a truly majestic voice to sing this majestic music. , so Brother Olson is perfect to perform it. Fast forward many years (I was in my sixties when I heard and saw this performance) and at last I understood this song, and I wept with Brother Olson. In the Church of Jesus Christ we refer to the New Jerusalem as the city that will be built here on the American continent. The Jerusalem in this song is indeed the ancient city of Jerusalem, renewed because Christ has returned to his city and his people. There is no need for sun, moon, or stars because the light of Christ and God bathe the city and the earth. The Gates of Jerusalem, long kept locked to protect the city and the people, are now flung open wide. ALL MAY ENTER WHO CHOOSE TO COME UNTO CHRIST! No one is denied. Christ now rules the earth and no one need be afraid. The long night of darkness is over and JOY fills the world. Every time I revisit this song I weep along with Brother Olson. I hope all who hear this song will feel joy in their hearts, also.
@ruthbrower81525 жыл бұрын
If you follow the lyrics, you see that it’s actually the life of Christ. The angels announcing the coming, the cross appears, and then the new Jerusalem appears with no need for outside light. Last night whilst I was sleeping There came a dream so fair, I stood in old Jerusalem Beside the temple there. I heard the children singing, And ever as they sang, I thought the voice of angels From heaven in answer rang I thought the voice of angels From heaven in answer rang. Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing, Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna to your King! And then I thought my dream was changed, The streets no longer rang, Hushed were the glad Hosannas The little children sang. The sun grew dark with mystery, The morn was cold and chill, As the shadow of a cross arose Upon a lonely hill. Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Hark! How the angels sing, Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna to your King! And once again the scene was changed; New earth there seemed to be; I saw the Holy City Beside the crystal sea. The light of God was on it's streets, The gates were open wide, And all who would might enter, And no one was denied. No need of moon or stars by night, Or sun to shine by day; It was the new Jerusalem That would not pass away. Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Sing for the night is o'er! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna for evermore

This is such a magnificent expression of faith. Look at members of the choir. They (the ladies) radiate an inner beauty that reflects the presence of Christ in their lives. This presentation is an inspiration. Only when Mr. Olsen tells us that the gates to the city were opened wide and that no was denied, does he briefly lose his composure. I confess to losing my composure, as well. It is a natural reaction to understanding God's Grace. Undeserving as we are, He has opened the gates. I am on my way. Follow me.

Yeshua/Jesus is reclaim ...reign from there for 1000 years and "and all who would might enter and no one was denied" it WILLhappen as gids word says...possibly soon as signs arepointing to it! it's the center of much controversy now and president trump has just made his announcement proclaiming Jerusalem the capital of israel....this is huge.... that will never pass away..,,when actually it's been a law passed by congress since way back 60's .....biput NOT ACKNOWLEDGED ....the world is going crazy over it too.....qhy so much controversy over this little nothing city ? But this is the way it's been for centuries....check out the history if not knowing....it's faith building and AWESOME ....THIS IS why this man is emotional.....the meaning behind the hymn....praise Abba...praise our saviour and speed your return !
