Thanks, Radhwane. Our goal at CAPE is to enhance patient care by focusing debriefings on 1) the actions of individual healthcare professionals, 2) how those actions influence the performance of the team, and 3) how team performance affects patient outcome. We see a need to distinguish between technical performance debriefings (conducted by those in high-risk industries to improve human and system performance) and critical incident stress debriefings (conducted to provide emotional/psychological support). We encourage our teams to develop the ability to dispassionately self-critique, as that is what will be necessary to impact the care of real patients.
