Thanks so much for the 'heads up' on this. I also have a Greenfield filter (installed about 2009) which I am told is not easy to remove bec of dvt leg clots which means the catheter would have to be placed in the neck and run down to the filter. There was also concerns about the safety of working in the region where the blood velocity is high....yadda yadda. Thanks to you I now know what symptoms to look for and where to seek removal if the need arises. Thanks so much for a wonderfully done video...really professional. Ben

I am 35 years of age Almost 14 years ago I had an IVC filter implanted due to a car accident. Two years ago it startied to migrate but no dr wnated to take it out they said it was no threat but now it has moved 6 inches and close to my heart and has broken off. The leg that has broken apart from the filter has migrated above the migrated filter and both are embedded in the side walls of my vena cava. So much to where the Dr isnt sure he can get it all out. In that case I have to live with the filter in me and let it continue to break apart until it kills me. I am so scared especially for my children I have three young teenagers who I am extremely close with. They are my rock and I dont want to leave them at this time. Please continue to pray for my family and for my surgery on monday. They are going through my heart and down, but not sure how well it will go.

I’ve had a filter for 28 years. It’s good to know this option exists.

I have a doctor who does not know what he is doing and would like my filter out! I also don't have 100,000 to come to Stanford for this procedure but I am happy for those who can have a free, peaceful mind knowing they can wake up the next day.

If you're old enough to join AARP, do so. Then, get UnitedHealth care through AARP. It'll cost about $200 a month, but there are NO co-pays for anything! There's a slightly less expensive plan, under the same provider, but they do have co-pays. I had a quarter of a million dollars put into a botched knee replacement done by Kaiser and fixed by Cedars Sinai and outside of my monthly payment, I didn't have to pay a cent for the surgery or rehab. You just have to be old enough to get medicare and once medicare stops paying the supplemental insurance (Unitedhealth care) picks up the rest.

WTF? I've had one of these for 20 years and nobody told me that it could cause problems. I'd be dead several times over without it, but I'd still think that a doctor might have mentioned that they can cause problems. Hopefully this is a rare problem.

I have medicare and medicaid in Florida .I have a vena cava filter in me for a year and a half and every day my mind is on this filter (I have constant fear about it) .I had PT feb 2017 because I had history of blood clots that was thought to be from cancer .The cancer was treated through surgery and chemo and I had a vena cava before surgery of cancer ,doctor made me put it in, and after surgery and chemo it was removed. After chemo therapy and surgery I stopped blood thinners and had tests like ultra sound and cat scan to see if I was clotting without blood thinners and I was not ,so I was off blood thinners for ten months and then in February 2017 I had a hernia operation (Hernia was caused from cancer surgery) .I told the doctor I had a history of blood clots .Well around two weeks after hernia surgery, I ended up getting a PT, and I was 4 days in intensive care and they encourage me to put a filter ,so now I have filter.I am in remission of cancer ,all tests are negative, and I would like to get filter out of me.In the past before I found out I had cancer I was on blood thinners due to unexpected PT. I had no problems being on blood thinner or filters. I believe I do not need this filter as long as I am on Xraleto . I am highly depressed over having this filter, and I live in constant fear, and always have it in the back of my mind. Since I have medicare and medicaid I was wondering if I can fly to Standford and have the removal procedure done. If there is a co pay for out of state(I live in Florida) I might be willing to pay for it if I can afford it..I do not know if you will read this comment ,but if so let me know what can be done. I do not know if a year and a half of having filter is to long of time for procedure to be done here in Tampa bay Florida.Maybe you can also recommend a good center here that you know of that can do procedure.I would appreciate any input, thank you for listening to me.

Made a mistake on this sentence " I had no problems being on blood thinner or filters" .I meant to say I have no problem being on blood thinners in past and had no need of any filter when I was on them. The filter was added twice ,once for safety before operation and then removed afterwards . The second time it the filter was added when I was not on blood thinners for ten months, and had a hernia operation which attributed to the blood clots and ended up getting a PT and that's when they put me back on a filter, because of the intense situation at the time (that was the second time). Now am on blood thinner and remission from cancer and feel like I do not need a filter. I have a hard time expressing myself, and communicating, so please forgive my errors in writing .
