This goes to show why Djokovic is such a dangerous player. You need to bring your a game and push him around the court to even stand a chance, the moment you take a breather is the moment the game turns around. That mofo has no lungs!!

It's apparently one of the best matches of Wawrinka who played with an incredible stamina to stop this man who was playing at his favourite surface. Some of his service & backhand were incredible. He's the man who stopped Djokovic when he was at his best & to beat him at 3 different Grand Slams at crucial matches is something really tough to handle. I don't think we will get a chance to see this version of Wawrinka anymore. Amazing performance which also made him win the title in that tournament !!

Wawrinka is one of the few tennis players on the tour who was not afraid of Djokovic and is not afraid, even Nadal and Federer are afraid when they go to matches against the Serb,their uncertainty is transmitted to Djokovic, whom it makes stronger and he defeats them. Stan has a strong mentality, he is confident in himself, he plays from himself, the shots that he owns, of course, a one-handed backhand ,a diverse game around the court, so he is a great threat to Djokovic even now. However, Wawrinka is all injured, and he can win absolutely anyone, as Wawrinka himself said: my goal is to make my opponent suffer on the court. And he knows how to do it. A great tennis player,I always liked him.
@TimelyAdventure
@TimelyAdventure 10 ай бұрын
He's incredible, he doesn't have the variety of shots of Federer or Nadal, not as many angles and touch shots, but I think that's why he's clutch, he knows he'll go for the big bomb serve and attack anything on the rise he can from the baseline, it's that simple for him, so he just stuck to that and if Djokovic was even a little off, Stan overwhelmed him with consistency and power in some big matches, even after digging himself out of a lot of holes here when it seemed like Novak had the easier service games. Incredible player, would be amazing to see him win one last slam, though perhaps not possible now.

Wawrinka played out of his mind this match. From a strategic point of view, Novak was trying to outslug Wawrinka and match his power, which no one can do when Wawrinka is on top of his game. The sets that Djokovic won were the ones where he hit angles with plenty of margin of error and made wawrinka run side to side. Stan’s movement is his biggest liability and Djokovic failed to exploit it sufficiently. But at the end of the day, Stan was way too good this tournament.

The best one-handed backhand in tennis!
@hopy51
@hopy51 9 жыл бұрын
Maybe if we talk about most POWERFUL backhand, but he is not winning a lot because that's simply not enough. He has no idea how to hit a slice backhand, he is awful in defence most of the time. You can't win by attacking ALL THE TIME because he is making a lot of unforced errors. Federer maybe hits less backhand winners but at least his backhand is much more consistent.
@lordbyron3603
@lordbyron3603 9 жыл бұрын
Stan certainly has the most powerful one handed backhand in the business and also the most beautiful. I love the way he pushes off on the rear leg and turns completely open. He has it all (forehand, serve, slice, volleys, footwork, consistency, etc) to become Number 1. The one thing that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic has an edge over him is in the "mental" game. He beat the #1 in the semis then and #2 in the finals of 2014 Australian Open. So he definitely has the talent, skills and fire power to beat the best. But for some odd reason, he lost his focus mentally in the 3rd set against an injured Nadal. He let Nadal win the 3rd set and he lost it badly. I couldn't believe it. It's like he checked out completely or something. If it were the other way around where Wawrinka was the injured party, the three top players would have no mercy and put him out of his misery in straight sets. You'll never have that winning match consistency if your mental game falls apart. So I hope he sees that and works on it. One way to work on his mental game is to develop a "killer's" instinct. I've been a Federer fan for a long time and still am; but now, Wawrinka has replaced Roger as my most favorite among all the players. I get bored watching Nadal or Djokovic for some reason. Murray is just another player. I like watching Nishikori but he got beaten badly by Stan. Dimitrov, Berdych they're okay. Raonic has some work to do. The only thing he has is his serve.

@@viksinha5410 I vividly remember that 2011 RG Final... Federer had an easy winner to win the 1st set with Nadal all the way in the corner and instead plays an unnecessary drop shot(exact same thing at IW 18 with delpo) that misses and the rest is history. He played at a very high level in the first 3 sets and arguably could've won them all but time after time he doesn't stay alert at the most critical times. No one has gotten closer in a RG Final than fed in 2011 but Nadal's perseverance was enough to see it through.

He was aggressive and hit the ball so cleanly and Djokovic couldn't handle (or bring his best game). As Stan said himself that when Djokvoic was in beast mode, he would be a much better player but tennis isn't about who's better on paper. Fair game to Stan! This was an amazing match! But still, both players improved their games dramatically in the months after this. Stan was visibly on a different level in his best matches of 2015 and 2016. The difference in the Djokovic shotmaking technic between this and from Wimbledon 2014 is huge, particularly on the forehand. Both the serve and the groundstrokes already looked different and more solid starting from Wimbledon of that year, and then in 2015 his general technique, movement, and confidence were simply insane! Close to unbeatable. Even if I was never his fan, I do miss watching perfect-machine-Djokovic 2015 style, I miss it a lot.

yeah i disagree, as a Canadian who is looking for unbiased broadcasts ESPN is one of the worst. If a American player is playing sometimes i can't even watch because it's so blatant their biases. Depends if it's a neutral match then I agree ESPN is fine. I prefer European Broadcasts myself though.

Novak did a wonderful job pulling Stan side to side and mixing up top spin, direction and slice in the first set. And as soon as he won the first set, it went to his head and made him think that he could overpower Stan from the baseline and go straight-up with Stan. That was a huge mistake and Stan made him pay dearly. Really miss this Wawrinka. I want him to make a deep run at this year’s US OPEN.

And people still believed Nadal would have won AO 2014 if he wasn't injured in that Final. I strongly disagree. Djokovic has been the best player of the Australian Open for 5 straight years who also convincingly overcame Nadal in 2012 in that infamous match using very same the modern style Nadal uses. and he was not that much different this year. Wawrinka was able to beat the Boss of this tournament in the best match of the tournament, it's no surprise he would win the whole thing if he carries that same momentum into the final.

Yeah it's amazing.... Watching that final live, it was so obvious Nadal was getting utterly destroyed by Wawrinka. The only way to even get into the match was to stop Stan's momentum, which Rafa managed to do. Yeah, probably stiffness in the back... But come on it's so obvious he was being overly dramatic to rattle Stan and his concentration. That's how Nadal is, on court he will do anything to win. Like it or not... I feel Stan would've won that match no matter what.

@lordphill807

Zeroasd693 Novak played one bad game in the fifth set, could have gone either way. If you had watched how strong Nadal was for the entire tournament, you should be able to realize that Stan could not have overcome him. Nadal had never lost to Stan and he was in form on the hardcourts, he would have probably taken down djokovic as well, not to mention that djokovic was not as good this tournament as previous australian opens. Wawrinka would have taken a set off of that Nadal at best.
