I’ve seen Clockwork Orange falling in people’s rankings of Kubrick’s filmography recently. Maybe a symptom of being a part of the Pulp Fiction/Fight Club Film Bro zeitgeist for too long?

Hi, Benji. You must not forget that the movie Lolita is based on a novel and the name Humbert Humbert is not an invention by Kubrick, but by the author Vladimir Nabokov.
@benjisanderoproductions

Aaah, that actually makes sense since the majority of Kubrick’s films were adapted from books

The novel 2001 ASO was actually written in conjunction withthescreenplay. And there areseveral . differences. It's worth reading the book just to answer several-but certainly not all- questions about the film @benjisanderoproductions

- I wouldn’t rank *Full Metal Jacket* so high. The training camp portion is outstanding but not the rest. It’s the same with the first half hour of *Saving Private Ryan* versus the rest. - My favorite Kubrick movie is *The Shining* because I have watched it the most. It’s electric! - *Dr. Strangelove* has the best all time performance by an actor in a movie with Peter Sellers playing three roles. - *Paths of Glory* is one of the greatest anti-war movies ever made along with *Come and See* and *Grave of the Fireflies* which all make you aware of the senselessness of war!

Hey I had a similar experience with discovering Kubrick's other films! I think 2001 is beyond words, but I also really liked StrangeLove, Full Metal Jacket, and ESPECIALLY Clockwork Orange. WHY DID YOU DO IT SO DIRTY!?!?! (just kidding I respect your opinion) Great video!

That's actually Not Kubrick in Eyes Wide Shut. He's Just an extra who happened to look a lot like him. His daughter, Katherina, said that the crew noticed the resemblance on set and Joked about it even then. Kubrick does however have audio cameos in both 2001 and Full Metal Jacket. In 2001 his breath can be heard in the scenes with Dave and Frank in spacesuits and he talks to Pvt. Cowboy over the radio in Full Metal Jacket. Also in the beginning of Lolita, there's an accidental appearance in a dissolve transition where you can Just about see him walking out of frame, at least I think that's him.

I think Dr. Strangelove, 2001 and A Clockwork Orange are my favorites. I do love The Shining and Full Metal Jacket but in both films there are at least a couple of cringy moments (The Wooly Bully scene and the “you gotta leave a trail of breadcrumbs” scene for example). As for the Shining however the UK cut is about 20 minutes shorter and I gotta say I think it’s the better cut. There are two scenes in the International Release that I wish had been left in the UK cut (Dick’s journey back to the Overlook and his introduction) but overall the UK cut is better.

FMJ in my opinion hasn't aged well - this is the Kubrick film that goes against his perfectionism - the locations for example are so obvious. I could forgive the London streets made up to look like NYC in Eyes Wide Shut - but here, the locations ruin it for me now. However, I loved it when I first saw it!

I'm a huge Kubrick stan, and I definitely agree on the greatness of 2001. Greatest sci-fi movie, if not film period. A little surprised about your ranking of FMJ, though. I think Paths of Glory is easily better...but Apocalypse Now is the greatest war movie of all time. Had Kubrick made it, I'd probably put it second on this list. Maybe in a dead heat with Dr. Strangelove, a movie that is curiously completely of it's time, and way ahead of it's time. I don't foresee a future in where it's not completely relevant to current world events
