Many thanks for that wonderful trip back in time. I remember when I was small in the late 50's I asked my father, my grand father and older friends who they thought were the greatest footballers: Kubala (Barca), Puskas Hungary & Real), Di Stefano (Real), Fritz Walter (Germany & Kaiserslautern) and Stanley Matthews (England). ❤ Decades later I read Stan's fascinating autobiography which is highly recimmended. What a pity I never saw him playing live.

There's some talent on that list that you've put. Glad you like the video and as you say it is an interesting look back in time. Pretty sure Di Stefano and Puskas played in Stan's testimonial at Stoke? I had that on VHS too but can't seem to find it now. I was born in the 70's and 1982-83 are my first memories of football so you're luck to have been around earlier!

@@boothenendtalers if you ever find Stan's testimonial again, I sure would love to see that game with exceptional players like Stan, Pushes and Di Stefano!!!

My Dad, a Spurs fan, took me to watch Stoke's first game back in the First Division against Tottenham just because Stan was playing. What a treat, though Stoke won 2-1 !

It seemed that Sir Stan was respected by fans of all English clubs if some of the comments I've received are anything to go by mate. Thanks for sharing your memory.

I found it a brilliant watch too mate, life must've been much more straight forward back then. I never seen it before Dave told me about it and passed it to me so I bought the software to convert it and it was worth every penny in my opinion.

Thank you so much for this upload. I missed it in 1963.

It's a superb watch and you are very welcome. I was born in 76 so far too young to witness any of this but I found it festinating viewing once Dave had passed it to me to convert digitally.

I'm not lucky enough to have seen him play but obviously the videos from that era highlight what a talent Sir Stan was.

Great viewing. Thank you for all of the videos on your channel - a superb trip through Stoke history which we've not really had on here before!

Thanks for the feedback mate, glad you're enjoying the videos. I'm enjoying putting them together when I have the time to fit them in. The plan is to go to the end of the 92-93 season first and then I'd like to do the 70's. However, I was only born in 76 so will need to ask around so that I can hopefully do that era justice.

Good joint effort I think mate. The documentary is superb so thanks for sharing it again and I'm delighted how well the convertor that I bought has captured the footage. Here's hoping it does the same for others that I have now 👍

Superb mate, I imagine he has some stories to tell, particularly around the 1953 cup win.

For the benefit of the programme makers: during the intro they mention Man Utd won the FA Cup, Spurs the European Cup winners Cup and Chelsea stormed back into the first division in 1963. One glaring omission, who won the First Division championship title in 1963? Answer Everton. this accolade was widely accepted as the more important achievement back then. and up until to 2023. I recall seeing Sir Stanley Matthews playing for Stoke ( who were promoted with Chelsea) against Everton in November 1963, He was 47 years old and in opposition to players like Tony Kay Brian Labone, Jimmy Gabriel and Dennis Stevens all marvellous defensive players who were part of the league championship side. it was a remarkable achievement by Sir Stan. Everton won the game 2--0 with goals from Derek Temple and Tony Kay. There was a minutes silence before the game for President Kennedy who had be killed the day before in the USA.

It's an astonishing omission really, especially considering that Granada TV have made it. Thanks for sharing your memories from the era, I've worked and lived in and around Liverpool for the past 23 years and love the place, it's a true footballing city in every sense of the word. It's a shame to see a club with the footballing traditions that Everton have struggling as they are and Everton in the Community do amazing things where I work. If you want an alternative view of the 1984-85 season where you won the league, have a look at the video I made about it from our perspective at Stoke. Both Everton games are on there, I had a very different experience to what you had that season!

@@boothenendtalers Thanks for your kind response. I gave up on Granada back in the late 1980s. Faced with a strong challenge to their franchise to provide ITV coverage in the North West they opened a TV studio initially in Liverpool Exchange square to provide news current affairs from there in 1982, to demonstrate their commitment to Merseyside. They later relocated to the Albert Dock with Tom McGurk and Chris Kerr the main news presenters. They still retained Deansgate Manchester as the main studios for all programming. This Morning with Richard & Judy was also broadcast from the Albert Dock right into the mid 90s. When the Government awarded Granada the 25 year franchise in the late 1980s. shortly afterwards they closed their news studio in the Albert Dock, later This morning & Richard & Judy left for London. The Liverpool bid was led by Terry Smith who started Radio City in the mid 70s plus a host of big names and backing from Liverpool who were household names. Brookside, pop artists and actors. Sadly after watching Everton since 1960 I lost interest watching the mind numbing slow passing side ways and backwards under Roberto Martinez , And the folly of expecting success by shelling out hundreds of millions on mostly overseas players who go missing in the winter months. instead of building a team from lower division sides who are just as good. PS My work often took me into Granada in the 1980s !

The state of the pitches back in the day! 😂 More like mud wrestling! Reminds me of the pitches I used to play on in Lads n Dad's! 😂 Bet I wasn't the only one to have an open goal in front of me, leather it! Only for the ball to stop dead on the line in 6 inches of mud!! 😂😂 Happy times indeed ❤
