I felt I could taste the dishes thru the tv & wanted to hug them all .. all that Italian language being spoken is intoxicating ! 💞 🙏Praying this show will spur a travel bonanza for Italy🌍 post - Covid to bring joy & love and an economic boom to this hardest hit region of the world. 💞

We rented a villa with staff in Figline val d'Arno and found the people we met so charming! I was unprepared to love Italy but love Italy, I do. I did not have Italian food until I was a teenager and mother made baked spaghetti!!! Truly, my darlin prince taught me to enjoy Italian dishes and the first cookbook I bought was Cooking of the Jews of Pigliatano by Edda Servi Machlin and I was on my way! Now, I've a new North Star in Stanley Tucci and I look forward to his CNN program and all cooking books!

Stanley, if during the course of this show you're thinking of eating your way through Rome, please consider going to a restaurant called Da Renato e Luisa, in the city centre (near a square called Largo Argentina). I have taken dozens of people there, Italian, British, American, German, French and other nationalities... and several of them said outright it was the best meal they had had in their lives. The passion and imagination that chef Renato puts into his food is equal to him kindness and humility. Luisa, his partner, serves tables and is an impeccable hostess.

Love Stanley Tucci, and I'm glad he's done this show, and I look forward to it, BUT am disappointed that yet another program goes to the typical places on the tourism map. There is such richness of culture, natural beauty, food traditions in the deep south-the Cilento, Calabria, Basilicata, Puglia. These were Magna Grecia, "greater Greece" in ancient times. There are so many unique sites and dishes. I hope they will return to do another series off the usual path. I'm happy to be an informal guide, and tell them a thousand stories. ;-)

Isn't it always the same with any geo-culinary excursion, especially on a "mega network", such as CNN? After all, it's not a 'travel channel'. Therefore it's more than appropriate for viewers whose common experiences and travel destinations, would be the most popular.
@anahata20093 жыл бұрын
@Jeepman89 yes, and sicily is great. I'm not knocking it or the program. I just have an attachment to certain areas, know what treasures they are, and wish for more people to have a chance to enjoy them, too, even if only from the comfort of their living room. Maybe a future show will bring them there. I hope so.

@@jjns5600 sure. That's one valid perspective on it-like a well- worn shoe that someone finds comfortable. Stanley I respect you so much but how could you say that Naples is falling apart? Based on what you make this conclusion? Naples is a city that has over 3000 of history, it has been the capital of the Spanish Kingdom for years and it’s still now one of the most beautiful city in the entire world! There is no city in the world that has what Naples are has: history ( ex. Pompeii ) nature (Vesuvius, sea, beautiful islands like Capri, Ischia and Procida), architecture (thousands of monuments built over a thousand year ago), food (pizza, coffee and mozzarella, just to mention 3) and people! What else?

"Regions with unique cuisine"... Meanwhile, all I saw in those 8 episodes are pasta, pasta, pasta, pasta. I cannot even fathom the idea that there are still people in 2022 who still crave pasta at a time when the West has such plethoric amount of world cuisines available. Surely this series made me want to go back to Italy for its beautiful villages, but definitely not for its (lack of) creative cuisine.

No doubt that the food is *generally* amazing but after living there for a few years I can’t say that any dish will change your life and I’m sure many tourists come back disappointed after watching shows like this where it feels like they randomly stumble into some Michelin nonna trattoria. There is much to learn watching Stanley Tucci’s, Searching for Italy. Tucci will be going to Italy’s 20 major regions. The first episode he went to Naples. The last episode he went to Rome. In the second episode I learned that in the 1930’s Mussolini banned imported goods, grains, and produce. People were starving but Mussolini tried to ban eating pasta too, saying it would make people weak and impotent. 60% of the population supported Mussolini. 40% were against. We all know who won the Pasta War. It's fascinating watching video clips of Mussolini too. He was very charismatic and animated. I thought I was watching Donald Trump. If 60% of our population backed Trump, like Italy backed Mussolini, our country would be in a very different position. Mussolini tried to ban pasta. Trump derided the wearing of masks. Both men politicized basic essentials which people relied on. People were hurt and killed because of their rhetoric. Mussolini's story is over. Trump's story continues.

And yet Mussolini is the most popular political figure in Italy.
