He is editing a letter (with Davos, Mathos, and the others) and making sure to put "Kingslayer" next to Jaime Lannister's name, but also SER in front of it because (call him what he is, the man is still a knight). @Opachki Robb was originally acknowledging that Stannis should be the king, but the Northern Lords didn’t want to fight for the South and had all called upon Robb to break off from The Seven Kingdoms and become an independent king for them. Stannis knew that he was legally the rightful heir to all _seven_ of the kingdoms, and not just _six_ of them. So he saw what Robb was doing as technically being a traitorous action towards his inheritance by taking away one of his kingdoms. I believe if Stannis could have simply allowed Robb to style himself as a “King,” but still swear fealty to Stannis on The Iron Throne (which is more like an Imperial title above kings), it could have possibly worked out. I think neither of them would have been very happy with such an outcome, but if they could have agreed to it, their combined forces would have been unbeatable.

Tarth is loyal to the Baratheons of storms end.. Stannis holds storms end and is Renly's older brother making it absolutely idiotic that Brienne would claim Renly as the rightful king. Also, Stannis has a Targaryn grandmother and by Targaryn succession rules any male comes before the females, making him more legitimate than D&D's precious Daenarys through conquest (Robert) AND blood (Targaryn). My favourite part of ASOIAF is when the wall is under siege and a nights watchman constantly insists Robert is coming to save them, when Stannis arrives it's such a triumphant victory as he's saved the realm. Yet the show have to take a masterpiece and dumb it down with good and bad, making Jon, Tyrion and Dany the only characters worth anything, ignoring their flaws and giving them plot armour and Drogon ex machina. Stannis is the most competent, complex and gifted character yet he had to have 75% of his story cut out and be used and abused for shock tactics because the showrunners are idiotic

Stannis and his brothers were half Targaryen in the show (Jaehaerys II was removed to make Aemon's age not quite so advanced and easier for viewers to understand. Rhaelle was moved down a generation to become Aerys' and Rhaella's sister, she married Steffon). It's going to annoy me if they go on about Jon being special because he's half Targ, while Stannis gets forgotten about again.

The Dance of Dragons shows that it is Male preference primogeniture succession, which means a daughter is eligible if there are no sons or heirs of those sons (including daughters). So from the Mad King the line of succession would still go from the start of the books: *Aegon > *Jon > Viserys > Daenerys > Robert > Stannis > Renly > Aemon

The way they killed Stannis is disgraceful. He became a completely unrecognizable character. They reduced him to less than meaningless now. What was the point of his character in the show? He has a larger purpose. Even if he dies in the books, he united the wildlings and the Northmen while Jon Snow sat at Castle Black and did nothing. Even if he dies and Jon is named KITN like he is in the show, Stannis made that possible. In the show? He was reduced to being a waste of screen time. Shame. One of the best fictional characters ever, murdered by the writing staff. Stephen Dillane did a wonderful job despite of that.

God, Stannis was the baddest dude ever. He was the only one with balls to storm King's Landing and nearly made it with puny numbers. He didn't give a shit, he was the rightful heir and that's that. No nonsense, that throne was his. Then, to be misled by a sorceress and driven to madness by visions of his victory, only led to his demise. To sacrifice his daughter was enough to drive half his force away, the rest utterly depressed with no morale, up against the worst kind of torturous and psychotic house in Westeros, and fighting his ass to the bitter end and surrendering to another's simple duty, because that was the best way to die, honorably. He was a just man, through and through. He was the one true king, and he got buried for it.

Stannis Baratheon. Probably the most complicated character in the entire series, books or show. The second of three brothers, ignored and given a hard time by nearly everybody no matter what he did, driven by an iron desire for law and order to claim an iron chair he doesn't want no matter how many desperate situations he's thrown into, ultimately he's an ultimate example of how the second son of a family is sidelined and ignored in favor of the older and younger brothers and yet he keeps going out of sheer stubbornness. No matter how many times he was stuck in a lousy situation, he always got out it. If Robert's life was a colossal joke, Stannis's life was one of how sheer determination goes is aided or hindered by luck.

Dany needs her dragon or she is nothing and would remain rhe Beggar Queen. King Stannis, by right of succession, helped his brother win the throne by right of conquest, all while Dany begged on the streets. He stormed King's Landing while the she was being abandoned by the horde. He fought beyond the wall while she leveraged dragons for her own nonsense. Long story short: she must bend the knee. Stannis, on the other hand, was a man driven by duty. It was his weakness as well in the end, but he had far better intentions than the white haired bitch of Old Valyria...
