A great attitude. Looks sharp. On time. No complaining. If the gig doesn’t pay enough, don’t take it. Let your playing do the talking. Don’t name drop all the things you’ve done. Remember you are competing against musicians that will play for free or very low. So you need exceptional qualities to get called over these people.

Being a drummer in and around the CT area there is nothing better than getting a text/call/email from someone letting me know that I don't need to bring my kit, but rather my "normal stuff"; sticks, snare, cymbals and kick pedal. Which brings me to a question; why don't you bring your own pedal? I know for me when I'm out seeing a band and they ask me to sit in the first thing I notice, even before how the drums are tuned, is how the pedal feels. If it's a bit wonky that throws me off. Maybe I'm just strange

Hi Neil! Great question!!! I pack the snare, pandeiro and hi hats together in a bag and they come in at exactly 20 lbs. I have status on Delta and I get a 70 lb allowance, but when I have to, I take the snare bag out and check the rest at 50 lbs. Occasionally it’s 51, depending on how many sticks are in my stick bag, but they usually let me slide. 😂

Great vid! Was curious to hear your thoughts on one other personal item for most drummers - their throne. Do you have a height memorized or do you just feel that out when using a backlined throne? It’s the first thing that makes me want to die when using a different kit is when the throne is way too low or hobbled together with toothpicks and/or duct tape.
@stantonmooremusic
@stantonmooremusic Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! I request a DW 9000 throne and I usually get it, but sometimes there might be something challenging. Luckily, I still travel with crew, and they advance the show and they make sure that we have what we need before we arrive so I’m usually OK. As for the height, I had been doing it by feel, but then I started realizing I was sitting lower and lower, and then I didn’t like that. So now I’m trying to get it consistent. If I lay a drumstick across the top of the throne over to the the top of the trap case when standing up, that’s about the right height. Thanks for the very practical question! 🙏🏼🥁🙌🏼
