I feel silly as a New Zealander (Pākeha) not knowing a lot of Te reō Māori and only wish it was compulsory growing up. I know kids back in the day were smacked for using it, and it saddens me and I apologise on behalf of my European heritage that they did this to Māori and decimated their culture and language instead of being partners in preserving it. I hope we can turn this around and maybe one day we will all be fluent in it. Te reō Māori to me, and I really mean this, is the most beautiful language in the world and a song like this proves it.

Such a beautiful language. It reminds me of our native language Alefuru from the Island Ceram, for certain words are the same. For example the numbers: rua and rima also means two and five in Alefuru language. And there are more examples. I love listening to your songs. One of my favourites songs at the moment! I've been physically abused as a child, became addicted and homeless. Worked my ass off and am now well on the way to graduate in neuroscience. After my graduation I plan on moving to New Zealand and live closer to nature (no space for that in The Netherlands). Because of that I am learning Te Reo on the side and understand most of the lyrics in this song.
