Aw poor angel, I hope she recovered quickly! Dr. M is this something that just happens spontaneously or is there a precursor?
@lmellick8 ай бұрын
The precursor is usually a staphylococcal infection somewhere in the body. Thanks for asking!

Another very nice video. Hey, when did you get the avatar for these videos? I haven't seen it before, but maybe I missed it. Makes me want to get an avatar. How do I get one? I really NEED an avatar now! Haha! Peace, my friend.

Hah! In reality I am learning animation to augment the educational value of my videos. This was my first attempt at animation.

My 5 year old granddaughter was just admitted to the hospital last night with SSSS. The doctors want to keep her for 2-3 more days. Is there anything we can do to stop this from happening again? Is it contagious?
@lmellick2 ай бұрын
Not really. We carry staphylococcus aureus in our nose and other areas of the body. It's mostly good hygiene activities such as washing hands and bathing.
@daduckess3 ай бұрын
How did you treat it?

Antibiotics and likely admission to the hospital

How to differentiate it from sjs
@lmellick8 ай бұрын
Nikolsky sign is seen in SSSS, TEN, and Pemphigus vulgaris but not SJS. In contrast to the superficial blistering in SSSS, SJS and TEN demonstrate subepidermal blistering and full-thickness epidermal necrosis resulting in deeper erosions. Mucosal involvement is seen in SJS and TEN but absent in SSSS. The diffuse erythema is more consistent with SSSS.

maybe its stevens johnson?
@anomaly97438 ай бұрын
Good differential. Although sjs is caused by drugs e.g. phenytoin, penicillin's, nsaids.
@smooth-obturator228 ай бұрын
SJS tends to cause a lot of deeper necrosis than SSSS, and also it effects the mucosal membranes whereas this does not.
