Every single time I hear Ms Mavis sing, it sends shivers and goosebumps all over. My Lord is she talented!! No computers or auto-tune here folks, just incredible natural ability
@daddymang92112 жыл бұрын
Mavis Staples created a language never duplicated such as the "shum on" in her lyrics is relative to 'come on" her deep growling moans were her metaphors for timing for the next phrase in the next verse. In other words she was enjoying her self having a good time on the mic.

Mavis got that baby face that belies the power of her voice. I've always felt immense respect and admiration for her ability. I adore the Staple Singers and I especially love their early gospel music. 🎼🖤

She could still "take us to church" even today at age 84. She has more talent in her pinkie than most modern "artists" have in their entire body

I have one question. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSIC FROM THIS SONG TO TODAY? What happened to the great soul music of the 70's? What happened to the Great R&B of the 60's & 70's. Usher, Fifty Cent all the so called shit that is being produced today. Again, what happened to the great music of the late 60's and 70's? Does anyone believe that Usher would have made it at all during the 60's & 70's with his so call great music of today. I dont think so. Mr. Wizard i wanna go back.
@Troikaone2 жыл бұрын
Ironically the soul music from the 50's, 60's and 70's was considered the devil's music and was shunned by some people. Most of the black singers back then had groomed their voices in church choirs. Also, since black folks were trying to make great strides to be accepted by the majority population; everything we sang about was considered wholesome. When black entertainers realized that a positive image did nothing to increase acceptance, we started singing about anything we wanted to.
