Hello guys, this time it's a little bit different. In this video I also do some comparison between the old version of Arc Corp and the new one. Arc Corp and Area 18 have been reworked in the past few years. What do you think about it, which one was the best Arc Corp?

It's sad that they had to downgrade ArcCorp because the 3.0 demo looks absolutely stunning. Way more "Bladerunner vibes" as Chris himself said

Nice. It's crazy how much the literal atmosphere show in the concepts adds to the character of ArcCorp, and how lacking and sterile it looks without it in implementation.

Well for concepts you can draw a nice painting because its a static frame. Implementation means your scene is subject to engine lighting based on time of day, location of sun, weather, engine light sources. Budgeting of assets, NPCs are tied to current limitations so you can't have that many and they aren't doing much like the concept arts. With normal games like Mass Effect you can get away with painting a scene with pre-scripted NPCs that only ever stand on the spot and talk and drink, and the player almost always approaches a spot from one or two directions. In a sim/MMO that changes. Also, your artist may draw you twenty different trash cans in a concept picture but they wont be able to do all twenty in engine when it reaches 3D modeling phase.

Honestly it’s a downer how much it’s changed from even their showcases of arc Corp back in the day... none the less it still looks amazing. But I just know there is so much more they can do to it and hopefully they will Edit: at 6:00 is what I am mainly talking about I guess, the glow of the city and the deeper parts of the city have the glow. Not to mention the way the planet looks from the space station is a drastic difference and IMO looks wayyy better in 3.0

Area 18 looks so much better in the concept art. And the planet as well looks.. shallow. But can't deny that there are parts that look better in the final version .

For those complaining about changes. I think it's important to realize that there's lots of artistic changes between concept to prototype to live in game. These are necessitated by optimization, people not having machines powerful enough (many still get 20 fps now), placeholder assets, visual fatigue and more. That's game development. Concept art is great, but the concept artists aren't concerned with polycounts, fps, object counts, performance, etc. The concept is just the vision. But in game development, the vision changes when hit with the reality of a live environment. The demo looks great because it's just a demo. Everything was meticulously controlled to ensure a smooth demo. But a prototype demo isn't live. It's already changed a lot since live too. The demo had no rotating planets (so they put the sun at the most optimal spot), no clouds, no Bajini station, windows didn't show any interiors and more. It will also change further as procedural interiors, weather, roads, etc. are introduced. Nothing you see is final. It still needs improvement. Without procedural building interiors these buildings are no more than set dressing. As wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle. The prototype demo had a Coruscant texture around the planet. That just can't work in cities with nothing but 90 degree angles. The current city texture still needs work. Early concept art shows just how much has changed. Originally Area 18 had just 3 landing pads in the concept art. Now we have an entire planet. As technology and development advances we'll see ArcCorp look even more amazing.

It was faked. The issue is servermeshing. Once servermeshing is up and vortex we will start seeing improvements.

Just a small video critique. it felt really slow, I would make the wipes/transitions faster. And the "title screen" at the beginning showing the Arccorp comparison was like 7 seconds, and should have been 2. Anyways..just a few small ideas. But I like the concept!

Ce dossier de dingue, gg. On dirait vraiment qu'ils ont prit le style de base d'Arccorp pour Lorville. Elle était vraiment crade et oppressante avant. Rien qu'à voir la zone d'incinération qui est finalement à Lorville

nice job. ithink the game looks almost as good as the artworks but does a bit look empty in the streets and shops because of its lack of NPCs

A lot of people said it couldn't be done and it was a scam, well, nothing stopping people downloading the game and exploring these places, CIG got quite close to the concept art, it's not easy making those concept art into reality with all sorts of graphics budgets.

If you need translate, use google traductor because i can't write about what i think in english. Creo que el mayor problema es que como dice son conceptos y probablemente lo que paso es que cuando estuvieron en el proceso de transformar los diseños en realidad muchas de sus ideas cambiaron, probablemente porque no tienen aún las tecnologías para poder hacer las ideas. Otro cambio que veo es que los espacios internos eran muy iluminados y blancos y luego se transformaron en espacios negros y oscuros. No sé porque habrán tomado esa decisión. Y lo ultimo que veo es que eliminaron de muchas zonas las plantas decorativas que ponían en los diseños, pienso que si no los pusieron ahora porque no podían, deberían hacerlo después.

I don't know if they faked the long distance LOD's for ArcCorp or not. But I always felt like they looked like shit. Just a collection of tiles covering the planet. The current world LOD looks terrible compared to what they showed in 3.0.

i belive one of the devs said that did, and that the floor tiles were very low quality and only looked good in that specific iteration of lighting.

I realy prefer the old look of ArcCrop. Hopfully we will see it one day again.

i seriously don't like ArCorp, like factory pack metal planet worlds are unrealistic it should of been dence city but mostly DESERT with a hIGh perimeter wall and wind traps and sewage outlets they could of also had OUTLAND areas i mean Hurston but more built up. The blast doors being standard is annoying too. lego block building system should be part of the game eventually but the current standard is ugly and chunky. it's constantly improving, i do think they need to add REAL utlity with screens in game and have a API that streams in images and information and maybe have it so users can create their own programs like games and animations if they give us an API to work with the MFDs and screens in a ship can become more useful,.

Because that was a texture specifically made to load when they got high enough, the picture and the actual city below doesn't match.
