Hardly a big deal, they mk2 is better so as far as I’m concerned, who cares.. we have so many ships, retirement of one is no big deal. Or pledge with store credit and leave it in buy back if you want the option to pull it in the future.

@@Libertas_P77it kinda of is a big deal mainly because the mkii cost more than mki so your put in a position where you basically have to melt and pay more for an updated version of a ship you already pledge which in some cases like the tracker hasn’t even gotten its gameplay yet or keep the outdated and underperforming “historical” model. Imagine if the 600i rework is turned into 600i S-Class instead and you have to pay for an upgrade to a ship you already pledged for expected gameplay. It’s just one ship so far but still kinda scummy and could set a bad precedent if repeated.

You'll likely just pay credits for in game insurance just like you would for any ship bought in game once they add the "feature complete" version of insurance.

But having smaller older ships like the MK1 Hornet floating around would be cool too since that'll give salvagers the option of "do I want to reduce this ship to its bare parts, or do I come back with a ship that I can fix up and claim it for myself to use?"

You know what would be nice, I'll tell you. An ability to take remote viewing tours of the Invictus expo with something like a flying eye drone which you can use to rent remotely and not spend the first hour of your evening catching a train, sprinting around impossibly large halls etc. I'm saying this as I've had a, medication related, week long headache and cannot cope with the legwork required to see the ships every couple of days.

Seems like the mk1 Hornets should be buyable in game from the used and military surplus markets and at junk yards. We don't have those kinds of vendors yet, but we're at least expecting junk yard vendors to be a thing eventually.

The Hornet is the most iconic ship in SC (in fact it is used as an icon on the website). It has been surpassed by so many ships over the years that I am not surprised it needed an Mk II or a full rework in the way that the Cuttie did. I salute you mighty bird/insect, may your legacy live on.

Something interesting about the Mk 1 hornets is that they created the military upgrade for the Super Hornet. That package is VERY old and CIG still hasn't delivered on it despite sunsetting the Mk 1s. Interesting.

Now that they're getting modularity up and running, I'm thinking they're tossing out the MK1 to reduce confusion on the online store. What's the big difference between each Hornet? Slight stat changes, and basically module differences. You can just have the Hornet Mk II purchasable, then achieve the same qualities with swappable components. You don't have to worry about keeping 5 different Hornet variants up to date on an old system. Just adjusting the one HM.II

The downside to that is the Ghost. For the Ghost, the stealth was baked into the hull plating, so you ended up with a 3.5k EM and IR, but still had the capacity to swap in the nose and ball turrets to get a huge firepower increase. It made for probably the best "stealth puncher" outside of the Eclipse. If they add components to create variants with the MK2, I don't see them doing anything besides sacrificing the ball turret for that "stealth cap" that did nothing in the Ghost, which means - sure, you can have a lower EM/IR, but you sacrifice two S3 guns in the process, making it instantly inferior to the Mk I Ghost. In all honesty, it sort've makes me question melting my Mk I Ghost.

The Terrapin is the best dropship in the game, and we regularly have 8+ people in it. It's sold as a scanning ship but it's actually a better dropship than anything that's actually sold as a dropship.

Cig really screwed hornet owners, they bought the uee’s premier fighter, now before the games even released it’s an an antique. The owners should have been offered a free or minimum price opportunity to upgrade to a mk2 instead it’s 55, 1/3 more to upgrade. If you’re a ghost or tracker owner you even lose some capability with the mk2. I doubt many hornet mk1 owners really want to collect old less capable ships. This is cig at is most mercenary. I feel for the guy who bought into the mk 1 advertising in 2012 and waited 12 years to get screwed by cig for an extra 55.

I can absolutely NOT agree with everybody criticizing this move and dropping the Fomo card. This is how CR intended it to be from the start and as with used cars, this can still be obtained on the grey market, you can keep buybacks and as they stated: the will be earnable/buyable some way or another ingame later on down the line. Imo this only shows how far we've come and it truly marks the end of the first chapter of SC. Farewell to this legend, thanks for staring in the first trailer ever and bringing us Here.

Polaris looks great especially with better turrets. It desperately needs more remote turrets toward side rear and rear. I would love to see Scorpius turret railing on each rear sides to give awesome polaris broadside views from rear remote turrets or views of rear combat as well

CIG "retiring" a ship = The game is not even finished yet and core mechanics that affect every ship are missing. Therefore, no ship should be getting "retired" because they have not even entered service. Is this the future of CIG monetization practices = Coming out with "newer" JPEG versions while "sunsetting" the older ones into abandonware ? CIG going to stop "supporting" or updating the MKI to encourage players to move to the "newest" ships with their features as part of the feature creeping marketing pitch ? CIG sell ships as part of an IOU they will be finished into a fully FUNCTIONAL state that was advertised. Retiring a ship before the game has finished a single mechanic and producing "newer" version = That is a failure to live up to that IOU with another shady marketing trick to push more product.

I'm not overly upset about the hornet decision but more with how its been communicated and what it might mean for other 'legacy' ships. There are plenty of examples of older ships in worst states than the Hornets and desperately need major reworks. While these might not be retired like the MK1 Hornets it does raise some questions about the priority they'll receive in the future.
