Pirating or griefing? Dont see where you requested payment in return for letting him have his ship back and live lol. Theres a fine line in my opinion. Its kool you fellas were trying to have a bit of fun bur your fun was at the expense of someone else that was simply trying to land. pirates have a code. This is 200 percent Griefing

can i ask, is there any point to this or just for fun? like, i'm assuming you can't sell any (of his) cargo or store the ship? is that something they will be adding at a later date? and can he not just spawn on a station and retrieve the ship?

At the time it was just abit of fun but now they have added money transfer so people can send us money and we will give there ship back. we have been unsuccessful so far :D thanks for watching

Spawning a ship without insurance cost money. Speeding that process up cost money. If the ship has cargo you can sell it taking %100 profit. You can basically hold people for ransoms. If they are stuck somewhere without a ship spawn they have to kill themselves or have another player pick them up.

I honestly didn't even realize "pirating" other player's ships was even available in game yet. So do you actually get to keep the ships or do they simply despawn when you log off?

No you don‘t get to keep the ship. The owner can just claim it or log out. Then it will despawn as soon as you exit it.
