Pyro is not going to be a place to make money by working inside of pyro, unless you are a pirate. You will make money in pyro by bringing stuff into it and if lucky, making it into and selling at Ruin Station or Planetary outposts. There is nothing in the system. That means everything must be shipped into it. So, they need food, they need distilled spirits, they need minerals, they need refined quantanium, they need medical supplies, and they need drugs. Well, maybe they have drugs, but they need the agricultural supplies to create those drugs. You will mine outside of pyro and bring it into pyro. I don't see why any shipping besides vices and scrap will be shipped out of pyro. As for the expanse, I see a couple escape routes for CIG. 1. Allow it to refine quantanium but only capable of 6SCU per reactor. So, a single prospector will incapacitate the expanse from taking on any more refining processes. Make it require triple the consumables and longer refine time than basic minerals. 2. Allow it to refine quant as it does any other mineral, but just make it use 10x the consumables. People have suggested refining consumables, but like mining modules? Where would these be stored? Would they be physical units like mining modules or fuels like hydro? 3. Say it cannot refine quant and take the backlash. I mean if something like the odyssey can ONLY refine quant, and it is an absolutely massive ship, how can a tiny little expanse refine quant. Stations are also obviously massive units to stabilize and refine quantanium. But then if you say quant requires the extra size of refining operations, why can't the odyssey refine other minerals?

Alright, so according to the Q&A, the Expanse won't stop the Quantanium volatility timer, however it will stop when refining beings (so you can refine quant!) Nice

I picked up an Expanse to use in conjunction with some friends. As we don't limit our mining to Quantanium, that potential limitation of the ship wasn't a show stopper. Really hoping it will be fun. And if it coincides with a larger Argo entry, I can always CCU up.

Yes -According to the CIG Expanse Q and A - "Will the Expanse have safe storage for volatile ore? For example, if I put raw Quantanium into the Expanse, will the time-to-destruction halt? No. The Expanse doesn’t currently have safe material storage, so volatility will not be bypassed by storing it on board. However, it should halt when the refining process begins."

I had similar thoughts regarding the Expanse. My plan is to use it in conjunction with the Prospector and Odyssey. The mining laser on the Odyssey would also make quick work on asteroids helping out the Prospector.

Excited to learn more about the Expanse. I hope they surprise us with a quick turnaround on it. When we can mine, then refine, then pack refined ore into a hauler for trading, you'll have a full-fledged org operation of awesome complexity. The dream.

That was very well-thought-out and recent, I liked it a lot. My reasoning for buying the expense is this: I just bought the two pack with prospector and expense. Because I want the prospector for an LTI token to upgrade to the Scorpius, for which I have a well discounted chain, I really hate the mining gameplay as it is. And I don't know if I will like refining, but I figure there's about a 35% chance I'll keep the expense and a 65% chance I'll use it as an LT itoken for something bigger and better. But by getting the two ships I save 30 bucks. As for buying it in game, who wants to waste the time grinding for ships that are going to get wiped anyway? I will buy a ROC in game, but most other things I buy with cash. And I rarely get too attracted to something (except for certain keepers, like the Carrack, Vanguard, BMM, and 325A.) Most are just there to be upgraded if something better comes along.
@jklyghter75972 жыл бұрын
I think you hit the nail on the head on why I want this but haven't purchased it. It does seem odd that there's been limited info, and that it's concept, and that there's been WILD theory crafting behind it. Ultimately it's something I'm likely to buy in game, but that's partly due to me wanting a limited number of ships so I have grinding goals. A great video, you certainly don't deserve the flak you're getting for voicing an opinion.

I don't see them releasing the expanse without exchanging the saddlebags being a thing. That means work on the saddlebags, the mole, the prospector and mechanics to mount/dismount them on all the ships in the chain and probably a way to even buy/stock them at certain locatoins. That will probably delay the expanse for a while.
@BizzMRK2 жыл бұрын
the cargo refactor scheduled for later this year so that would take care of the saddlebag issue. Tractorbeam tech is already in place, granted only for the handheld multitool at this time but I doubt it will be much hassle to adopt it to ships and they could even borrow some of the UI and mechanics of ship-to-ship/station docking and refuling for alliging the saddlebacks to the intake.
@josephbrand75562 жыл бұрын
There are too many unanswered questions on the ship based refinery game play to know how best this ship will get profit a mining org. It's great that it pairs well with the Prospector. Both Prospector and the Expanse have size 1 QT drives, so they will not be going very far on their own. Until we get more details on what can be refined by the Expanse, how long it will take to refine those ores, and what is needed to empty the refined materials and load into a transport ship it is hard to determine the economics of it. While I can envision how awesome it will be in our Org night mining excursions to have a team of Prospectors and Expanses working together, all I can know at this point is that it will give our crews more time on target hunting and extracting ores before we have to head back to offload. Theoretically, a single Expanse can take 2 loads from the Prospector and start refining, and the Prospector can go grab one more load before the queue is full and other means of offloading are needed. This will increase the credits per hour that can be made gathering ores in general. Until we learn what ores can or cannot be refined, and how long to expect them to cook in the refinery before ready to be offloaded for transport it impossible to know what the actual benefit is going to be. Waiting for many questions on the Q&A to be answered, and for it to be released to know how it really will work.
@Anachroschism2 жыл бұрын
Transporting back to Stanton from Pyro, or as I expect, Nyx, soon after, might require org-level activity. I'm not expecting to head there solo, as it sounds like Pyro will be a space dungeon of sorts, filled with dangers, and obstacles that require teamwork. I feel that the Starfarer might need to sacrifice something to be fitted with a refinery too. Likely, the refuelling arm is replaced by a tractor beam and saddlebag intake, similar to the rear of the Expanse. However, the Starfarer could possibly be the medium refinery, to go with the Mole, but CIG would likely be better off releasing a new ship to sell us to fit that role. I don't even know if the original concept images of replacing fuel pods with cargo pods will be possible in the future.

Love the video and love the Expanse and will purchase it but only when it becomes usable. This is an in-depth analysis and very accurate one at that. These are the exact same concerns I have with some of the ships being pushed to the market without having content to complement it. I love SC but for me, buying concept ships you have no clue on when they'll be released and once it is having to deal with the nerfing that will be done to them. Just like the Mole which was great in the Halo (safest place to mine) pre 3.17 and look at the mess they did with having to now crawl to less than 350m in order to get a full content scan which now made the Mole almost completely useless in the belt unless you have hours and hours to scan everything to finding almost nothing worth mining. Do I think it's still worth paying $315 USD ($410 CAD for me) for that ship?? Not for me but guess what, I'm stuck with it now. I'd rather buy something that has a use for me NOW than spending money for something that might have a use in a possible future.
@Mike5Brown2 жыл бұрын
I was really close to getting one but they didn’t release it was a warbond CCU so I passed, but that was with the intention to jump to something bigger later, most likely the 400i. I do like the ship and I wonder that when it goes live with station refineries actually start paying attention to that refinery capacity percentage? Maybe, it only takes 5min to refine a full prospector load but it’ll take a long time for the station to actually get around to doing it. (Will we be able to bribe the foreman to get bumped up the queue?) Times right now are more of a placeholder?
@Leadnap2 жыл бұрын
Times at refineries are not so much a "placeholder" but they are (like everything) subject to change. It will be interesting to see how the gameplay balances out. My concern sits at CIG's tendency of late to nuke the new in favor of the value of the old - in this case the Expanse getting worse to maintain the value of the stations.

Hello and thx for the great video. I totally agree, that constructive criticism is not only a good thing but necessary. At the same time, I personally don't expect to get all information about a concept ship from the beginning. Of course, as far as they don't mislead the backers, as they did with the Ares. That did hurt... they ruined a nice ship and they went away from their own description they used when selling it. Reading those marketing sentences today... In the case of the Expanse, I think they will absolutely come with ideas to make it interesting. I believe it will refine quantainium too. Will be interesting to see. Will it be necessary in Pyro? Or in other systems maybe? Because Pyro is just the next one, but more will come. For the time being I kept myself back and wait. Greetings to u all and thx for the interesting video.

With Pyro having been "Mined of usable materials", one has to ask what the purpose is to go there? My guess is that it's a large place to hide... or.. the reports were wrong. My belief is that it's the latter. My issue with the Expanse (I did buy one) is that because of my background I'm concerned that it's lack of logic will, or may, pull me out of the willing suspension of disbelief. The Prospector and MOLE nearly did so with the combination one two punch of the terrible HMI/Need for the meat puppet to adjust the power and the fact that the MOLE had the mining lasers mounted on the bottom instead of the top. So what CIG needs to understand is that the reason their universe works is that it's VERY realistic. I have NEVER been so immersed in a game. Never. The attention to detail is second to none. Because of that, however, as someone with an industrial background I quickly identify those things that just don't make sense. The Expanse to me.. doesn't make sense. Refineries exist because they can use economies of scale to make refining the ore at all... a viable industry. Having a small ship that does it will need to come with some serious tradeoffs and those tradeoffs will hurt this ship's believably unless CIG is very careful about how they implement it. If it's going to refine ore, it should also be able to refine quantum.. but it should do so... poorly. Why? Well because it's not designed to refine quantanium. It's designed to refine EVERYTHING. We have already been introduced to what a facility designed to refine EVERYTHING looks like and how big they are. Sure, some of that can be said to be volume related but then that's exactly my point. This thing will likely (If believable in the universe) be severely limited in the amount it can refine. The fact it can refine the material at all... should be the amazing part. So do I like it? Yes. I do. But I like it because it can refine these materials at all. Not because it will be a printing press for money like the MOLE is. But then we are going to have to be introduced to exactly why someone in Pyro will need agrecium or terranite. Great video. Keep them coming.

Not trying to be pointlessly contradictory here, and this may have no bearing whatsoever on the Expanse's ability to refine quantanium, but quantanium (raw ore), quantanium (refined commodity), and quantanium (fuel) are all different things. Unless I'm missing something major in game, I can't and will never be able to take refined quantanium and drop it into my ship's quantum fuel tanks. The way I interpret this is that refining quantanium fuel is an additional refining step, beyond simply refining quantanium ore into refined quantanium. The way I understand the starfarer's additional refining capability is as this additional step: turning refined quantanium in to quantanium fuel, which I would absolutely assume the Expanse can not do. Its ability to refine/stabilize quantanium ore into refined quantanium is an entirely different question.

This whole MOLE with 96 SCU versus Expanse with 64 SCU _OMG ARE THEY EVEN COMPATIBLE?_ debate is one of the biggest surprises for me. The only question about compatibility should be around the size difference of the MOLE's ore bags over those of the Prospector, not the total SCU capacity. The ships involved are only going to have to concern themselves with one or two bags at a time and the rest of their SCU capacity is just headroom. People need to ween themselves off the idea that a miner will fill up completely and then only want to offload _everything_ in one go. The Expanse doesn't work like that - it will tractor in _one bag at a time._ The Expanse could have as little as 12 SCU for stored output and still be compatible. If players need to fill a MOLE and offload to an Expanse and then get the refined output somewhere in one hit, the missing piece of the puzzle is simply a ~96 SCU + cargo ship.
@Power52 жыл бұрын
He did question if the bags would fit since the math says they cannot be the same bags on a prospector as a mole. Also, capacity of the expanse would make it incompatible for mole quant refining. With any other stable ore it is fine to not fully unload your mole. If you are trying to refine quant, you need it all offloaded as soon as possible for stabilization. That makes them incompatible.
@marcjensen90802 жыл бұрын
@@Power5 _"Also, capacity of the expanse would make it incompatible for mole quant refining."_ This is the misunderstanding I keep seeing and is doing my head in. MOLE users do not have to worry about offloading 96 SCU. That is archaic thinking that is suitable for station based refining. Instead people need to grasp the reality that is... One. Bag. At. A. Time. ...floated across by tractor beam. An Expanse won't be picking up 96 SCU or 32 SCU. It will pick up 12. Or 8. Or however much is in _one_ bag. At that point the Expanse pilot switches to starting up the refinery process. Meanwhile the miner goes back to mining. It is a concurrent collaboration between two or more ships rather than a purely sequential one. Any quantanium miners dopey enough to completely fill up and try to pass on their load in one hit are going to realise the mistake they made when their bags get tractored away one bag at a time while they're still sitting on a partially loaded quantanium time bomb.

so your plan is to spread out a single mole into 8 trips and a prospector single load into 4 trips as a good idea to make gameplay last longer than it should?

@@Power5 One trip. The refiner and miner stay together and work together.

I mean if that sounds like a good plan to you, go for it. Most people value their time. Stringing out a single load into multiple trips for same payout over a longer time frame is not a typical "good" plan.

I think I get why you're kinda biting your words, but you were right the first time round - and you still are, asking people to pay for concepts that have no decent gameplay info attached is just silly
@sal5922 жыл бұрын
but then again buying ship concepts in general, in a game that puts emphasis on persistency in the player's ships/hanger inventory just doesn't make sense to me. Especialy when it can cost you nothing doing it in game
@maestrom75312 жыл бұрын
Point of contention. You talk about the Mole as if everyone would want it. Not everyone has interest in the large multi-person ships...
